Girls just wanna have fun

Life, Kong Rithdee, Published on 22/01/2016

» Two transhookers are not looking for love and warmth on Christmas Eve around the crummy blocks of Los Angeles. In Sean Baker's hilarious, rambunctious and surprisingly sweet a-crappy-day-in-the-life-of-African-American-streetwalkers, they are looking for horny customers, and for their slick pimp and his new lover (who's "a fish", derogatory slang for real women). It's also a surprise that Tangerine, a guerilla-style indie film shot entirely on iPhones, has made its way to Thai cinemas (only at SF), and those keen to sample an unusual flavour of high-spirited wacky comedy with its heart in the right place, this is the one to go for this weekend.

Light flickers in US, fades in Thailand

Life, Melalin Mahavongtrakul, Published on 30/11/2020

» For a good part of November, the world was gripped by a tumultuous fanfare that is the US election. And even before the very last votes were counted, relief and joy were already felt in many communities, not only in America but perhaps across the world. For better or for worse, Donald Trump's reign is coming to an end, and the world now looks to President-elect Joe Biden in the hopes that his win will let voices from the marginalised LGBTI community become louder. Biden promised to enact the Equality Act, a civil rights law that will protect LGBTI people from discrimination within his first 100 days in office among other things.

LGBT community vows to push harder in 2021

News, Published on 15/02/2021

» As street protests came back last year pointing out pressing issues needing change in the country, the LGBT community joined the movement calling for more progress on gender equality too. And although 2021 is not a year to expect any leaps of progress, activism for the cause will continue.
