    In the swim

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 11/03/2016

» To look on the bright side of the perpetuity of Thailand’s “summer”, it’s always a good time to go for a swim. With such constant opportunity to soak in the sun, whether it’s at the rooftop infinity pool of your Bangkok condominium or on the beach of a beautiful Southern island, you don’t want your Instagram to make it seem as if you own only a stingy one or two swimsuits. Even more than that, you should want your swimwear to make a statement. Here are four homegrown swimwear brands with designs that will do just that.

» On a nondescript cul-de-sac in the lively Ekamai neighbourhood, several cars disappear into a house tucked behind a tall maroon-coloured gate from approximately 6-7pm every day. You may guess that it’s people visiting a friend’s house.

    Art as a political act

Life, Kaona Pongpipat, Published on 18/03/2016

» It was with a feeling of nausea and disgust that Chiang Mai-based artist Mit Jai Inn spent one month working on his new series of abstract paintings, now on display and part of the exhibition "Wett" at Gallery Ver at N22 in Bangkok. Mit's series is entitled "Junta Monochrome" -- obviously not for the works themselves -- for the art space has exploded with every colour imaginable; rather the title conveys the artist's contempt for the reality outside: a junta-ruled country where things are either black or white, where if you're not a khon dee (good person), the artist says, you are inevitably the bad guy.

Life, Yvonne Bohwongprasert, Published on 11/01/2016

» Before embarking on his diplomatic career, Shiro Sadoshima enjoyed many artistic endeavours. He was a budding stage actor active in his university, and his talent with paint and brush can still be witnessed in the paintings in his residence in Bangkok. The Japanese ambassador to Thailand is as comfortable at the negotiating table as he is in front of the canvass, and he can be as animated talking about bilateral relations as he is about his favourite colours.
