When textbooks get it oh-so-wrong

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 26/05/2017

You're just a big kid!

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 13/01/2017

» It's okay to be a kid every now and then. By that, we don't mean asking your parents for permission to go out, throwing a tantrum when you don't get what you want or picking your nose and eating the booger either. Eww.

Out & proud

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 18/11/2016

» Although gay characters in Thai media are no longer unusual, they are still often portrayed as caricatures. YouTube series Gay OK Bangkok, directed by Tichakorn "Jojo" Phukhaotong, breaks these stereotypes by showing the diversity of Thai gay men in a more realistic light. The openly gay Jojo is also the founder and director of Trasher, Bangkok which throws crazy themed parties. The Surat Thani native made his directorial debut earlier this year with the first season of Gay OK Bangkok which he also wrote. Its second season is about to be released next month and we wonder what he has in store for fans this time around. Watch the series at www.YouTube.com/TestBKK and follow www.fb.com/TestBKK.

» I thought I was being strategic visiting Pablo on a Monday morning to avoid the queue of Bangkokians wanting in on the latest food craze. Boy, was I wrong. » The social media sphere has been a breeding ground for new Thai words, phrases or hashtags that are used in posts, shared content and news stories. They spread so quickly I doubt the Royal Society of Thailand is able to keep up. For the sake of edutainment for all the immediate learners of the Thai language, as well as my fellow Thais out there, here are eight popular online phrases of recent times. Just in case, you know, you want to be down with the kids.

» The Setting: Being a celebrity and having culinary excellence come hand in hand these days. You're either such a good chef that you receive media attention for your restaurant and gain a following or you're a celeb with an existing fanbase who ventures into cooking. For the love of comics and sneakers

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 29/07/2016

» Sneakers can be a form of self-expression and an outlet for creativity. That's what Kraftka, a sneakers brand with a cool concept, is about. Chanasinj "Sunny" Sachdev, Kraftka's co-founder and owner, puts a new spin on footwear by offering a platform for sneakers enthusiasts to be both creators and collectors. We first knew Sunny as a co-creator of American-style comic books The Roach but he has also been the creative mind behind many projects. Guru chats with Sunny, a comic book geek and video gamer at heart, after he came back from giving a talk on his brand at Discovery Asia's Digital Disruption Week in Singapore last week. He told us about his entrepreneurial journey, what Kraftka's new pop-up shop has in store for sneakers enthusiasts, and more.
