If one knows the story was written by a ghost, it is not a very clever ghost is it? (Well, in this particular case at least) How's the whine going?[/quote:dmorgk9g] 'touche! whining didn't last long half a glass and back to beer Can I quote dear slim dusty? It's lonesome away from your kindred and all By the campfire at night where the wild dingos call But there's nothin' so lonesome, so dull or so drear Than to stand in the bar of a pub with no beer (first verse only) (don't want to clutter the nice, clean forum )

    • airport_worker commented : And still over 60 LM cases in queue. Does anyone know any statistics of % pardons versus no. of convictions for the LM laws? Just a curiousity, but if the number of pardons is a high percentage of convictions, surely that would indicate the law is considered too harsh by the very person it is designed to protect?

    • airport_worker commented :
Hello everyone, Good news indeed even though there are still more people pending this is the right step. The man is free now we should all be happy for him.[/quote:3r6pbur3] Yes, the problem I have now is the deafening silence from Thai media, due to the "Please don't talk about LM cases" instruction. From foreign press we can discover foreigners who were pardoned (or never proceeded to trial such as Lech Tomasz Kisielewicz in 1995). But associated press et all, rarely mention Thai people accused of LM. That's why I asked if anyone has some figures on the results - all I can see is Lech from 1995 (apologised and was released), Oliver Jufer 2007 (pardoned and deported), and Harry 2008 (pardoned, deported). Thai cases in the last few years? (ones that have proceeded further than just the accusations please ) EDIT Additional.... Bad of me - I forgot Sulak Sivaraksa accused twice and acquitted in the 1980's and 90's Giles Ji Ungpakorn - well, accused, and has departed, but no result from a court

Funny really, I can't even quote the lines of His speech, Becase if I quote the K*ng's own words I would be guilty under the current LM laws.... Sorry, not funny at all.... rather sad

    Medical care in Thailand

By Anonymous, Created on: 15/02/2007, Last updated on: 13/03/2014

» So next time you go to Thailand for an holiday or medical care give the Thai people the respect they deserve. Because the nurses or the Hotel staff are mostly much under payed and their home situation is many times not so brilliant. Deal with a genuine courtesy, politeness and respect, and not in...

    • Martinus commented :
Ann, It was not my intention to offend in any way. If I did I sincerely offer you my apologizes. But like Hans wrote, [b:tyt6j7aa]the same medical care for the common Thai is not affordable.[/b:tyt6j7aa] By the way if you visit Hua-Hin go the beach at the south side of the town besides the \\ //// beach hotel. Its very clean and quiet. I've been their some ten years ago. My wife and I, eat and drink all day on the beach for not yet 200 bath. maybe this info can help you http://www.huahin-info.net/info/useful.htm kind regards harry[/quote:tyt6j7aa] Correct, but other medical care (affordable) is definitely available Same like Oprah Winfrey will get a different treatment and price as Joe the plumber Free medical care is ready available for all workers through the social card and more than often accompanied by medical insurances in companies like BUPA, AIG, AIA etc. which also (but not in all cases) covers their family. The latter is usually provided in Multinational Companies. So your attention should shift to Thai not taking care of Thai... Poor people still can get free healthcare through the former 30thb rule, it has changed, is a little more expensive but it is till there......Thai people who are not insured are taking the risk themselves On the other hand older foreigners have it more difficult to get proper insurance as most foreign companies will not accept new members older than 60..... SO Harry, you are misinformed and have it totally wrong....

    • Anonymous commented : Juta, "Men are from Mar and Women are from Venus" does not have anything to do with the current social trend in Thailand. Oh, it does not mean that these women will marry rich foreign guys; it is the foreign guys in the developed countries, which they are not from Africa. If you understand that Thailand exports commodity products and not durable items, Thai women would be Thai OTOP product. Thai government knew and keep this statistic and do have Thai social workers in these foreign countries to help these Thai women in case of some type of abuses. Thai foreign students and the wives of US GI's have started this trend, and it has become socially acceptable practice...not to mention some people at the top of Thai hi-so.

    British Embassy in Bangkok

By Anonymous, Created on: 05/10/2004, Last updated on: 25/02/2011

» In March, my Thai partner wanted to visit me in London. Before granting a visa, the Embassy wanted a mountain of paperwork including proof of my income, whether or not I woned my own home and a whole lot of other things. At this stage, I have to say that we have many controversial issues in the UK...

    • Anonymous commented : To Richard Applin (who wrote above) Richard, while I am not as insecure as you to go to great lengths to convince readers how educated my partner and I are and that I did not marry a sex industry worker, I can confirm I am in a similar situation. The British Embassy treated my wife and I with such contempt it was unbelievable. We supplied ALL documents requested by the embassy and even had them verified by managers at a well known Thai bank. The staff who dealt with us were rude and cynical beyond belief. As just one example, the staff took a letter that our condo owner had been kind enough to write, looked up at us and said "you know we get a lot of fakes like this". There is NO excuse for treating people like this. So it is not just a case of you being so much better than other applicants, it would appear you got lucky. The staff seem to be very rude to a wide range of applicants. Besides, even in cases where the applicants are a young Thai woman and an older "farang", as long as the marriage is legal and documents can be surprised it is not the right or responsibility or even the business of the staff to judge their application on that. Their sole duty and power is to make a decision based on criteria specified by the British Foreign Office. If staff cannot do that objectively, they should not be employed.
