» Whether you are a fan of big-budget action or heist genre films, seeing massive Hollywood stars like Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Gal Gadot plastered on the poster of the latest Netflix original Red Notice felt like a no-brainer crowd pleaser. Entertaining a dark soul
Life, Ariane Kupferman-Sutthavong, Published on 15/11/2017
» Writer Franz Kafka's sombre, absurd, yet resolutely modern universe has long been a source of inspiration for filmmakers; his novels and short stories having provided the basis for several film adaptations, from Orson Welles' critically-acclaimed The Trial to lesser-known movies such as Michael Haneke's The Castle. As part of "Unfolding Kafka Festival 2017", an expert explains how Kafka's works continue to fascinate readers and audiences, in large part due to the Czech writer's sharp intuition and "prophetic" perception of modern-day woes.

Mongkut, reinterpreted
Life, Kong Rithdee, Published on 18/03/2015
» When Arin Rungjang learned of the art heist near Paris earlier this month, the Thai artist had good reason to feel concerned. It was one of several royal tributes presented to Emperor Napoleon III by King Rama IV in 1861.

Scarlett does non-human, again
Life, Kong Rithdee, Published on 31/03/2017
» It's possible that when we all die and are reborn as cyborgs or aliens, we'll look like Scarlett Johansson: white and bewildered, gamine-haired and supremely athletic, fierce on the outside and gentler within. The actor's recent list of post-human roles is impressive. She is an extraterrestrial seducer sucking men's souls in Under The Skin; a human-CPU-God hybrid in Lucy; a cybernetic assassin in Ghost In The Shell, which is our subject today. Mind you, even devoid of her physical self, she still embodies the voice of artificial intelligence, as in Her, in which she purrs her way into the consciousness of that world.

More is more in Civil War
Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 29/04/2016
» Walking into Captain America: Civil War, the 13th Marvel film to be released since 2008, I felt like I knew exactly what I was in for. Like with a good majority of Marvel's past films, I assumed this was going to be another two-and-a-half hours of excellent action and CGI imagery peppered with some witty dialogue, wrapped around a serviceable plot with an uninspired villain.

Beware the internet
Life, Bernard Trink, Published on 10/08/2015
» With 7 billion fellow humans on the planet we tend to keep our family, friends and acquaintances in very small circles. The rest we ignore as much as possible. Classmates and colleagues are temporary. Instead of loving our neighbours, we keep one another at arm's length.
