» During the Indochina War years from the 1950s through to the 1970s, America's seven military bases in Thailand symbolised the extraordinary extent of US influence over the politics and development of the Kingdom. In the subsequent 30 years, American influence in Thailand has slowly but steadily waned, largely supplanted by a rising China. Thailand, which had been a linchpin of America's Asian strategy, is now instead a linchpin of China's Asian strategy. American soldiers on R&R have been replaced by Chinese tourists, American airbases by plans for Chinese high-speed rail links. China, not the US, is now Thailand's largest trading partner.

With an intriguing plot and a massive budget, The Ocean Eyes is a collaborative production between three countries: Thailand, China and the US. As an international star who plays the leading role, Suppasit has a chance to work with Hollywood producers, including Rick McCallum, producer of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and The Star Wars Special Editions; Herbert Primig, producer of the animation Star Wars: The Clone Wars; and Henry Gilroy, co-writer of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

The horror film was also recently picked up as an original feature for the streaming platform Shudder in the US and will be released theatrically in Thailand tomorrow, just in time for Halloween.

As part of the event, a core member of UFO907, noted graffiti crew from New York, is having his first exhibition titled "Zero To Hero" in Thailand, after two main exhibitions in Japan. We talked to the elusive artist about his long journey as graffiti artist, experience of creating art on the street and his quirky signature alien. The exhibition, which features several sculptures and many paintings created in a studio in Bangkok, runs until Feb 20 on the ground floor of Siam Discovery.

It's play time!

» After the enthusiastic reception of the first edition in 2016, the Bangkok International Children's Theatre Festival (BICT Fest) is back, from May 19-27. In this edition there will be nine productions from seven countries: Germany, Japan, Belgium, Scotland, Indonesia and Thailand, with a special French Highlights programme. The menu is diverse, open and colourful, and includes a new circus, contemporary dance, puppetry and mime acts, and is fit for viewers aged two to adulthood. The venues are the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, M Theatre and Chulalongkorn University.
