The "C" word

Guru, Sumati Sivasiamphai, Published on 03/02/2012

» Upon hearing Twitter's decision to censor content deemed offensive in certain countries, the Thai government no doubt produced a collective moan of delight suitable for an illegal porn film. So much so that the Land of -------- became the first nation to publicly endorse the micro-blogging site's policy of blocking tweets that may violate local laws. Wow, the last time we were that quick to react to something was when we heard there was a sale going on.

Whose line is it anyway?

Guru, Sumati Sivasiamphai, Published on 16/03/2012

» If you printed out every complaint made about immigration services at Suvarnabhumi, you'd probably have enough paper to cover the airport a hundred times over. Common traveller grievances include ridiculously long lines, inadequate staffing, and, god forbid, officers who don't smile in the Land of Smiles.

Notes from a 7-Eleven

» Forget all your woes about social divides, fuel prices and that bar girl you drunkenly married while in a Songkran stupor because I come bearing good news: Thailand is well on its way to being perfect again!

A pictorial guide to navigating the skytrain

Guru, Sumati Sivasiamphai, Published on 13/07/2012

» If your personal chauffeur is currently on his annual holiday, then chances are you may have been forced to take the skytrain recently. If that's the case, then I'm so sorry you've had to experience the anguish of encountering pushy passengers with festering armpits who obviously don't heed the barrage of whitening deodorant commercials continuously blaring in the train.

Slacking on the job

Guru, Sumati Sivasiamphai, Published on 14/09/2012

» I Boy, would I be embarrassed if I was an official at the Interior Ministry right now. The whole country has learned (well, those who follow the news anyway) that the ministry's staff basically spend all their work time on Facebook. So much so that Thailand's favourite words - "crackdown" and "ban" - have had to be thrown in to combat this scourge.

Get out of any problem the Girly Berry way!

Guru, Sumati Sivasiamphai, Published on 21/09/2012

» Before we get started, I wanted to pre-emptively apologise to my readers for the times I'll be forced to use the phrase "Girly Berry" in this article. What the heck is a "girly berry" anyway? Is it an effeminate fruit that gets laughed at by all the other crops because it likes to wear frilly dresses and make-up? A type of produce that's overly emotional? A berry that only goes to the bathroom with all its other berry-friends?

Ridiculous headlines of 2012

Guru, Sumati Sivasiamphai, Published on 14/12/2012

» As 2012 winds down, now is apparently the time we're supposed to look back and reflect on the year that was. However since many of us probably can't even remember what we did last night (always a sign of a great night), it seems we may have to turn to the news to refresh our memories on some of the more interesting things that have happened in the last 12 months.
