» As the night descended, we went out with binoculars in hand. Amid tall trees, flashes of light illuminated a pair of red eyes, which experts quickly identified as belonging to nang ai -- or Sunda slow loris -- a nocturnal primate native to southern Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore. The animal, perching on a faraway branch, is currently listed as "endangered" on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List.

It was an online review saying a blossoming garden in a Khao Yai resort was now open to all visitors for free. The sight of the gorgeous winter flowers drew me in. I said yes.

In Thailand, the possibility of the civil partnership bill -- viewed as a step closer to coveted equality -- has been discussed frequently in our society lately, especially after a draft of the bill was released earlier this month on the Rights and Liberties Protection Department (RLPD) of the Ministry of Justice's website. But the initial excitement quickly faded when people read the fine print of what the bill really entails, and began questioning whether it really spells out equal rights.

Opening the festival is A Star Is Born, the Bradley Cooper-Lady Gaga musical romantic drama. Closing the festival on Nov 3 will be Japanese animation Godzilla: The Planet Eater, the final chapter of the animated monster trilogy.
