The marriage was short lived and nightmarish for him. He returned home completely broke and bitter. According to him, among other...

Is it normal to pick up the bride at midnight on the wedding day?

By Anonymous, Created on: 06/08/2007, Last updated on: 17/06/2009

» My Thai girlfriend and I planned to get married in Jan next year. Her parents went to an astrologer to find a good date and time for our wedding. Finally the date and time have been determined. However, it seemed a little bit strange to me about the time that astrologer picked. I was told that...

    • Anonymous commented : When after about six months my wife to be and I spoke about a dowry, I agreed on one condition: the 200,000 bahts would be used to buy land in her name for "our" future. OK it is symbolic because I could in theory never see, use or benefit from the land. But all agreed. Then after having sent the money (from BKK wher we live to...yup, the NE) the price of land began to skyrocket, and I becamse suspicious, to say the least. After just over amonth I pretty much inistsed to have the money returned and used differently for "our" future. Good news/bad news. The money was returned to my bank account. Minus 18,000 baht. "Pa had to pay the rice farmers". Thais need symbols of status, especially the poorer ones. Dowries and cars (4x4 - 4 foor Toyota or Isuzu pickups galore) and big fancy houses. never mind if the dowry s returned next day; if the truck stays parked outside the house 95% of the time, or; if the house has 5 bedrooms for three people. It's all symbolic.

    Going for gold

    Database, Published on 24/11/2010

» Juti Krairiksh, Minister of Internet Censorship in Thailand (MICT), told your ToT and your CAT Telecom to cool the plans to pour huge money into new networks; for example, your CAT wants to put six billion baht into a fibre-optic project; for example, your ToT wants to throw 13 billion baht into a next-generation network, and you know what that is, right? (neither do we); Mr Juti suggested strongly that the duopoly hold off because it looks redundant to him, and so far as CAT's plan to upgrade the CDMA 2000 1X network _ well, that should cost less than four billion baht.
