    • Anonymous commented : rates you. When we invest our happiness in couplehood, we deny ourselves the ability and the right to create our own happiness. Of course all of this goes against a wave of evidence manufactured by Hollywood, sentimental ballads, Hallmark cards, and the impenetrable facade of lovers. People in love seem to project this sense of self-sufficiency bordering on invulnerability. They have this glow, this spring in their step, and when you call a friend who's in his honeymoon period of couplehood, you hear a purring voice that's smug and dreamy, where the subtext reads, 'how are you, I've just had my prostate massaged and it was sheer bliss'. But if we can somehow get beyond all these 'someone-has-the-key-to-my-happiness' yearnings, then we'd realise how underrated solitude is. Being single can also be a state of grace. There's the introspection bit, the re-prioritising of affections, the calling up of friends you haven't kept in touch with, the family bonding, a sensitivity to one's surroundings. Somebody single can even have a certain glow on his face, and even though it won't be a post-coital one, it is a glow nevertheless. Perhaps one day, us singles will finally be recognised not as people waiting in the wings for their turn, but as people who have simply chosen a lifestyle we are comfortable with. And that doesn't make us frigid or cold or emotionless, it's just that our loves are multiple and dispersed over so many other things: poetry, jazz, rock-climbing, our pet dog, our ten-year old niece. Perhaps gay men will stop whining about being left on the shelf because honey, life isn't a supermarket and it's ridiculous to think that you're worth as much as a roll of paper towels or a jar of pickles. Well, as for me, I'm happy enough being where I am. My parents are in good health. I can have ugly, sloppy days in the company of close friends and not subject myself to the tyranny of 'first impressions'. And the best thing about friends is that what is past becomes history, and not some kind of baggage. For true friends very rarely keep small scores. Someone might have just gotten hitched to his eighth boyfriend, but I have just finished watching videos of Fellini's La Strada and some Kurosawa shorts. At the end of the day, it's about self-actualisation. If being attached would mean that you'll become a better person, a happier person, then you should go ahead and aggressively pursue that other half. Me, I'm not waiting for anyone, and I want to say it as a statement of fact rather than a resigned fatalistic sigh. It's possible that someone out there is waiting for me though, which is quite a thought. But before I let him through the front door he'd better be able to complete my favourite phrase when I prompt him: 'Quietness without?--Loneliness'. And understand and appreciate what it means. To me. To him. To us.

    • Anonymous commented : saying money can’t buy happiness because most of the times it does. But having to live with some rich guy without any trust in him is a suicide. I think I can represent most women on this. You cannot draw a conclusion about women with a few women that you may have in your life. Remember, you mum is a woman too. And I’m sure that she will be very sad if she realises how her beloved boy has a negative perception towards women. Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.

Do You Support Your Thai In-Laws?

» In Thailand, children take care of their parents. They kind of pay back the debt that they contracted just by being born and educated by their parents. And contrary to "popular" belief, it is valid whether you are rich or poor (but of course far more meaningful if the parents are poor...)....

getting Thai nationality to work as a lawyer without getting married

» Could anyone please advise me if my boyfriend, who is an Australian paralegal, is able to work and live in Thailand without getting married straightaway. • Anonymous commented : ntry can give joy, warmth and happiness to everyone who visits. While a lot of foreigners want to become Thai and live here, the locals are trying to divide the nation. It is sad that outsiders love our home more than we do. LUCKKANA S It is not uncommon for foreigners to get Thai citizenships without having to go through lengthy procedures as common in other countries. In fact, there are countless foreigners who had have obtained Thai citizenships without having to learn how to read and write Thai language and or appreciating Thai culture. Many of who have never contributed significantly to Siam and or Thailand. There are many foreigners who have contributed greatly to Thailand and to Thai culture like Joe Luise (the founder of Joe Luise Thai Puppet Theater) and many others. Even the supportively formal Chinese communists were granted Thai citizenships beside other formal antagonists of Thai governments. So it is not uncommon for someone to obtain instant Thai citizenship with or without the Royal Decree if these individual are doing and or bring somethings (money and other personal wealths) to enhance Thai economy and to help enrich Thai culture. Tiger Woods has dual citizenship and was granted honorary bachelor degree from a Thai university. Does he very care about Thai citizenship and the Thai honorary degree? Because somethings are given, it does not have the same values as somethings that are earned.

    Medical care in Thailand

By Anonymous, Created on: 15/02/2007, Last updated on: 13/03/2014

» So next time you go to Thailand for an holiday or medical care give the Thai people the respect they deserve. • Sean Moran commented : g well and wish you all every happiness and success with the good things in life. Yours Sincerely, Sean Moran. ---ooo--- Essentially, the major advantage that the health system in Thailand has over that of other countries where I have been is that Thai health professionals treat their patients with the dignity we like to think we give to other human beings, rather than just another job on the to-do list; another burden to contend with between coffee breaks; another lab rat in the human biol department; another cadaver to play around with before the time comes when they automatically graduate and inflict the same learned attitudes on live test subjects. This human kindness rarely found in Australia spans from the private hospitals such as Bumrungrad to the public hospitals that have refunded my attempts to pay for their lifesaving help, to the drug stores where I have always been able to access the medication that helps my lungs to keep me alive. Every night I get closer to dying while I remain in Australia, not because they cannot source the prednisolone that would save my life, but because they are too pedantic and childishly stubborn to let me buy it. This is why, when I drop by an Australian pharmacy for a replacement salbutamol puffer (Ventolin/Asmol) and the newly emploed ignoramus behind the counter blurts out that same stupid teasing rhetorical question, "Are you using a preventer?", I find the friendliest succinct answer that comes to mind is, "As soon as I can afford to get back to a civilised country, miss." followed by a scowl that tells her, "Just serve the friggin' paying customer his ventolin and stfu when you won't sell him what you're asking about anyway, biatch" The simplification of the secondary and tertiary academic process in Australia has severely impeded the quality of staff in the local public health system; from pharmacists to public hospital nursing staff (mostly contract workers) to GPs, where those who would not have graduated from high school before the affirmative action following the Beasley Report of 1985 can now be authorised to stand at your hospital bedside and inject mystery drugs into your body under the pretense that "it's just a little something to help you relax..." This is why I now refrain from using the colloquial TLC (The Lucky Country) in favour of TFS (The Fatal Shore). Getting back to a civilised country once more is literally a matter of life or death for some of us.
