Its tranquil yet opulent vibe, attention to detail and superb service make for a stellar stay, living up to the inspiration behind its namesake, which is drawn from the brightest star in the constellation Auriga.

» Halloween will be upon us in less than 24 hours and it's an excuse for you to dress as supernatural beings, popular characters from movies, celebs, generic archetypes and even food items. And if you still have no idea what costume should you wear for Halloween party tomorrow, you're in luck. Here's my costume idea that you can easily pull off.

New kid on the Sukhumvit block

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 16/06/2017

» The Setting: When talking about high altitude dining, readers should be informed that there's a new kid on the Sukhumvit block. Mojjo Lounge Bar recently opened on the 32nd floor of Compass SkyView Hotel, allowing you to take in a sweeping skyline view of the city, with drink in hand, of course. Décor-wise, Mojjo goes for a classic and spacious feel, with an added dash of Latin flair. The whole interior oozes class and style, befitting the occasion of a sophisticated dinner or after-work unwinding. You can watch the twilight sky from air-conditioned comfort through the tall floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Or enjoy an unfiltered view and breeze at the outdoor black-and-white checkered area.

    Japanese fusion (sans confusion)

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 05/05/2017

» Washi Sushi Burger may look generic on the outside but the menu of this two-storey Japanese fusion fast food restaurant has something to pique both your curiosity and appetite. Purists and naysayers may be put off by the idea of making burgers with rice patties or drenching cheeses over sushi but, in Washi's case, we'll say don't knock it until you try it. Washi proudly presents its variety of sushi burgers which basically use patties of vinegar rice instead of buns.

» Earlier this month, New Zealand Herald reported that Thai students were asked to adopt new nicknames for "smoother cultural integration" in New Zealand. You see, some Thai names and nicknames just sound so unfavourable in English. You know, the likes of Poo, Pee or Porn for instance, for obvious reasons.

    Good times at Yoka Yoka

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 30/10/2015

» Yoka Yoka, which is Fukuoka’s local dialect for “good”, for the most part lives up to its name. The modern Japanese restaurant is located at Ruamrudee Village, a small hub of good restaurants for the after-work crowd. Yoka Yoka occupies two floors, each with a different mood. On the ground floor, the inviting wooden interior seems to be set for a more low-key dinner, where you can enjoy your meal in peace and quiet. The upper level, on the other hand, is cooler, featuring a sake bar, funky artwork, brick walls and concrete columns. There are two private rooms, one with a private balcony, that are perfect for a reasonably rowdy gathering with friends.
