» 1. After a dozen years as one of Thailand's premier shopping centres, Siam Paragon is celebrating its latest anniversary with their extensive "Siam The Great Celebration" campaign. It's made up of multiple smaller events set to be held until Jan 15 next year. Examples of the events featured include a pop-up installation from Miu Miu fashion brand, an exhibition of French jewellery brand Cartier's special Cartier Red Box and a Harry Potter-themed "Christmas In The Wizarding World" retail experience. There will also be various special promotions and discounts for shoppers throughout the campaign's duration.

Backward thinking

» It's "rear-end backwards" time again in Thailand. While the rest of the world enjoyed the Thai tourism video made with khon figures, including the Thai community here in California, only the Thais in Thailand complained. Oh ye of narrow vision and little faith. Wake up and see Thailand for what it really is, and how it is perceived, certainly not a country of only beautiful beaches and temples.

Kaleigh Rae Gamaché will perform as Anne Frank, accompanied by the Siam Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Singapore's rising star Adrian Tan.

River Kwai Fair

» The annual River Kwai Bridge and Red Cross Fair runs until Dec 7 at the River Kwai Bridge and Klib Bua Field in Muang district, Kanchanaburi. The event is held under the concept of "70 Years Of Peace in Kanchanaburi". A highlight is a light and sound show depicting the history of the bridge and the "Death Railway", which were constructed by POWs during World War II. Also, there are the Provincial Red Cross Council's shops, government agencies and public enterprises' exhibitions, concerts by famous singers and bands, a mini motor show and amusement park.

Take Thainess with a grain of salt

» The main intersections of downtown Bangkok were once again closed to traffic and packed with crowds last week, but it had nothing to do with political protests. We were just being encouraged by the Tourism Authority of Thailand to "discover" our "Thainess" with an elaborate procession of decorated floats replete with dancers and literary tableaux.
