Marry in Thailand 1st then Apply for Immigrant Visa to USA

By Anonymous, Created on: 15/05/2004, Last updated on: 23/09/2007

» I'm an US citizen living here in Northern California. I plan to get married sometime next year in Thailand to a Thai woman who works as a registered nurse, as she plans on moving here in the US afterwards. I researched the US consulate in Bangkok and US Immigration (USCIS.gov) and sort of understand...

    • Anonymous commented : The fiance' visa is definitely the best way. My step-son (mother is Thai, father is American) is marrying a Thai woman in November. He applied for her fiance' visa in late April and it was approved in August -- 90 days is typical. Requests from the INS after the initial applications included: copies of his passport pages showing that he had visited her, copies of his airline tickets, dated photographs showing he and his fiance' together. Fortunately, he had many such photos, since she is the daughter of family friends, and they have known each other practically all their lives. We will have a traditional Thai wedding in November followed by a civil ceremony in the U.S. in December. This is exactly what my husband and his now-ex-wife did when they married 33 years ago.

    • Anonymous commented : Recently I was told by my Thai wife (I met her in a Hong Kong club) that she had an affair with a Thai men and has a 12 years old daughter and she asked me to adopt this grown girl as her step father. I am merely 32 years old man. I felt meserable but I have deep sympathy in her confession of hard life of her young days (I wonder if her statement was true or not because her eldest brother-in-law, a Japanese man was blocked to talk to me everytime I visited on her old mother, brother and sisters. In fact I wanted to talk with him about our marriage problem and listen to him how to manage his. He speaks well English and run his own business in Bangkok). I am sad to see that she even try to have her friends divorced from Thai husbands and remarry with American men. Do I have to suspect her as the paid agent by doing so ?. My parents, brother and sisters initially accepted her when we married but now all shunned her away as my savings have been dwindled. Language and culture barriers are others which limits to make good family. I refused to have child with her and now I have to have 12 years old grown daughter. What shall I do with this woman ?

» Is there a website or company my husband can register with in case his son should ever want to look for him? My husband briefly married a thai woman before he met me. The marriage was short lived and nightmarish for him. He returned home completely broke and bitter. According to him, among other...

    • Anonymous commented : Again, here, another heart-breaking story !. as one of fathers like your husband, it is your husband who must be brave and resolute. He must know too, every mother, good or bad, loved her own children no matter who fathered the children. He and the mother of child must be sit-down and step by step sort out things. The most important thing is to feel how the child feels. Every woman is like how you feel, and so you will be good helper to your husband's emotion break-up. Also father is father and if he cannot do anything to his blood line, he will remorse until his death. I understand very well a man's heart. Be patient. open the channel to go and come with the child and its mother. watch carefully if the mother's living environment is suitable to the child. Try to find good helper. go and meet the senior relatives of mother's and let your husband express his heart. It takes long time but can not neglect. Someday when the child grown up, all tears will turn to smile. It is our life. You are indeed a special woman. Great !.

    • Anonymous commented : Hi Colin. I always enjoy your posts.. You are always spot on. It is nice to be old. With age comes great wisdom. Re the DNA testing, it can be done quite easily. Tests can be done for $125.00 (see website) http://www.genetrack.com/us/dna_testing_tour.php?step=2 The father does not have to get the actual DNA from the child. The mother can do it and send to him. There is no way she can forge the results as submitting the DNA from anyone other than the child of the father will produce a negative result. My guess is that if he requests a DNA sample and she knows the child is not his, he may never hear from her again. Best Regards,

    • Toscano commented : [i:34v6o3wj][/i:34v6o3wj] All the Thai girls are perfect , till you are married to them . Please take heed to all the posted replies to yours . Some prospective inlaws require a substantial sum of money in advance , which will then be counted out at the wedding , for all the guests to see , before being banked by them , or put under the mattress . In my opinion , if the girl has been previously married and has children , no sum of money should be given . The stories that you hear and read are no exageration and many men experience far worse . It is not a good idea to think to marry girls met in holiday resorts , its best to marry girls who have Never been to the south of Thailand . My wife is 49 to my 73 , she is headteacher of a school , her two children are both in their mid twenties and married , there is one grandaughter 3yrs and another expected . My wife and I married at neighbouring local Amphur , registry office , without telling anyone , till a few days later . I am lucky that my inlaws are reasonably educated and not on the breadline . My wife and I live in her original house , totally restored and modernised by me . i have helped in the building of another larger house , where we may move to when my step daughter and husband find civil service jobs in this area . Money the husband provided was used to build the second house ; so they will have value for money . I help out father and family members who have a need , but they do not prey on me and take advantage . You have to be able to say NO and mean it .

When upgrading can be a backwards step

Database, James Hein, Published on 10/11/2010

» It can sometimes be interesting to see how people view computers and applications. Many years ago I put together a small Access application that was used by my father, an archaeologist, to track pottery sherds discovered in digs in Thailand. It wasn't a very complex application in IT terms _ a simple database and a couple of forms _ but it was very useful to my father for his work.
