    Dramarama

» Last week, well-known Thai actress Laila Boonyasak said she no longer want to star in lakorns (Thai soap operas), which often depict catfights, as she says it encourages people to be brash and doesn't provide anything of value to society. She then brought up the noted Netflix Korean drama The World Of The Married Couple (which is titled A World Of Married Couple on Viu), which is getting a Thai remake with handsome Ananda Everingham (who's officially off the market) as the male lead, as examples of her preferred roles.

    #BehindTheHashtags

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 06/03/2020

» Many student protests that were partly set off by the dissolution of Future Forward Party over the past two weeks has also ushered in new hashtags into the lexicon of Thai social media. At the time of writing, it has been reported that there are 28 hashtags associated with campus protests. Some are humourous while others carry strong political stances and sharp gibes. Whether you agree with these students who've chosen to make their voices heard, it's better to get used to their protest hashtags as more student flashmobs are on their way (but many speculate that the designation of Covid-19 as a dangerous communicable disease may be used as a tool to suppress them). Not to mention, an online campaign calling for people to wear black on Fridays as a symbol to oppose dictatorship began last Friday.

» They say a picture is worth 1,000 words but perhaps this classic idiom needs an update. Let's go with, "a Line sticker is worth 1,000 words and some cash too if you know how to make them". Mouthful, I know, but read on and all will become clear.

    The Sacredness Of Thai Degrees

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 21/01/2022

» A Facebook post by a doctor went viral last week and sparked a much-needed and perhaps overdue debate regarding the graduation ceremony at Thai universities. She claimed her employer friends wouldn't consider hiring graduates who didn't attend the ceremony to accept their diplomas from a member of the Thai royal family for fear of them being troublemakers. Being conferred your diploma by a member of the Thai royal family is a relatively new norm that started in the reign of King Rama VII. I would like to offer my personal experience regarding the tradition and my two satangs on the topic.

    Is your friend overworked?

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 18/05/2018

» Working too hard can take an emotional toll on us. Since I'm all about the peace, love, zen and well-being of everyone, I would like to propose a few telltale signs that someone near you may not be doing well. If someone you know exhibits one or all of the following, you should, as a good friend, tell them to take it easy or tell them to consider resigning because the job may not be the right fit. Look out for this behaviour:

    Teach for change

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 05/05/2017

» Some of you may know Thunhavich "Sky" Thitiratsakul as the keyboardist from indie band New Mandarin, but you may not know that he's also a teaching fellow for Teach for Thailand (TFT). The non-profit organisation aims to bridge the gap caused by education inequality so that all Thai kids can have an equal footing in life. TFT is an official member of Teach For All which operates in 39 countries. It recruits young graduates to join its leadership development programme so they'll go on to teach and inspire hundreds of students for two years. We talked to Sky about what it's like being a change-making teacher and TFT's new online campaign "#10000dreams" which launched today.
