Your digital photo album
Life, Boaz Zippor, Published on 03/01/2012
» In the last years I have encountered a very strange phenomenon that worries me, both as a photographer, but mainly as a researcher of human behaviour. Ok, maybe researcher of human behaviour is a bit of an overstatement, as usually I just snicker and make smart alek comments about that ridiculous game called human behaviour, but still, it is a phenomenon that should be acknowledged.

An issue that won't go away
News, Published on 11/01/2012
» Another week, another disturbing case that has stirred public concern over the nation's lese majeste laws. Details are finally going viral of the incredible witch-hunt for a young Ratchaburi woman. The crowd-stalking and scurrilous campaign against the woman are troubling, to say the least. But the state justice system has reinforced the prejudice and abuse of "Joss Stick", as she is called, because of the unique workings of Article 112 and other lese majeste laws.

Shock tactics can rebound
News, Published on 21/01/2012
» One of the big pluses of the internet is that it is free for all to use. No one needs a licence or special permission to blog, upload videos, set up Facebook or Twitter accounts or make their voice heard. While that is as it should be, this freedom needs to be carefully guarded and exercised responsibly. If it is abused by those who act stupidly and provocatively then it provides governments with an excuse to step in and interfere with the free flow of information, something they are always ready to do. It is the bad actions of a few that spoil things for the many.

Tense standoff at Thammasat over lese majeste law
Veera Prateepchaikul, Published on 02/02/2012
» My sympathy to Thammasat University rector Somkit Lertpaithoon who is in the unfortunate position of being caught in the middle of a potentially hostile confrontation between the Nitirat group and their supporters on the one hand and their opponents on the other over the lese majeste law, or Section 112 of the Criminal Code.

Monopolising spaces of freedom
Life, Anchalee Kongrut, Published on 03/02/2012
» My first day as a student at Thammasat University was quite endearing and full of eerie memory. Walking in the university for the first time, I saw more than just buildings. I was struck by the famous funny-shaped Dome Building and the size of the campus that is far too small for its own legendary fame. For me, almost every inch in the varsity has been shaped by memories of the October massacres in the 1970s.

'Tis not the season to be jolly for Yingluck
News, Veera Prateepchaikul, Published on 20/02/2012
» Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra posted a message on her Facebook page last Friday wishing Thais would treat one another with honour regardless of sex, race or origin and to respect human dignity. PM and issue of probity
News, Published on 22/02/2012
» You have chosen to include a number of letters in Postbag condemning the Democrats for sullying Yingluck Shinawatra's reputation as a woman. Yet your concurrent article, ''Tis not the season to be jolly for Yingluck'' (BP, Opinion, Feb 20) states precisely why so much more than her gender is involved. Perhaps readers don't care about such apparent ''conflicts of interest'', or feel _ as do most poor people all over the world _ that such ambiguities don't matter so long as a government delivers.
