Learning how to fly

Life, Apipar Norapoompipat, Published on 01/02/2019

» "First, let's be honest. When you think of Klong Toey what do you imagine? Remember that image and look at yourself in a mirror. In there is a reflection of your own prejudices," writes textile designer Kamonart Ongwandee on the walls of Conne(x)tKlongtoey -- a powerful and poignant art project whose exhibition runs now to Sunday in Charoen Krung's O.P. Place.

In tapas we trust

» A few things come to mind when Bangkokians think of Spanish food: the plates are small, expensive and not worth the money. Walking into any Spanish eatery, you have to mentally prep yourself to either break the bank, or pay an affordable amount for a less-than-mediocre meal.

Trekking lightly: a trip through the himalayas

B Magazine, Apipar Norapoompipat, Published on 10/06/2018

» It was 7.30 in the morning. Driving through misty clouds on an unpaved road sandwiched between a plummeting mountain drop and a local Nepali village, our jeep clamored its way up from Pokhara's peaceful lakeside to Nayapul -- the starting point to the "shortest" and "easiest" trek in central Nepal.

A Mad look at the classics

Life, Apipar Norapoompipat, Published on 16/05/2018

» Madsaki's artworks are stupid. Stupid of course, in the best cackle-inducing way possible. In his latest solo exhibition "Combination Platter" (situated on the ground floor of Ploenchit's Central Embassy), Leonardo da Vinci's 16th-century masterpiece Salvador Mundi is now a beady-eyed Jesus. And Picasso's US$155 million (4.9 billion baht) Le Rêve -- instead of a tranquil woman napping peacefully on a sofa, she now has giant black button eyes and a dumb smile to match. Honestly, they're even more entertaining to look at than the originals.

Cue the screaming girls

Life, Apipar Norapoompipat, Published on 11/05/2018

» One of the biggest fears in going to a Harry Styles concert: the fangirls. Young, highly emotional, and full of tremendous passion and energy, their temperament could make or break a concert experience. Yet, amid the blood-curdling screams and occasional drunk chair climbing, the power of the crowd, paired together with the former boy band member's overflowing charm, charisma and showmanship produced an unexpectedly fun and entertaining night.

Making waves

Life, Apipar Norapoompipat, Published on 06/02/2018

» Imagine being on a 20m-long sailboat crammed with at least 10 other people. Imagine spending 22 days on that boat, crashing through terrifying and treacherous seas in the most remote areas on the planet. You're soaking wet, sleep deprived, eating freeze-dried food with no toilet or shower. Imagine doing that for nine months with a few weeks of rest in between, just to get your name engraved on a single trophy with no prize money.
