» Now in its 19th year, Elle Fashion Week returned bigger and longer than ever -- spanning five days, from Aug 30 to Sept 3. Bangkok's symbol of fashion -- the big, white tent -- returned to CentralWorld to give its spectators a taste of the season's upcoming looks, featuring 15 shows and 21 designers. From old guard, established names to brand new labels making their debut, this season was a good mix of flamboyance, as well as sleek sophistication.

» In case you haven't gotten the memo, this season's trend as seen on catwalks is about piling all kinds of prints and patterns together to create a frenzied, colourful jumble. To put the print-on-print-on-print effect all around you, Ikea's SPRIDD collection is just the thing for your home. In collaboration with fashion designer Kit Neale, the furnishing giant has released a range of tents, lanterns, mugs, bags, poufs and sleeping bags that use the bold patterns the East London brand is known for.

» If you're in the mood for dance-offs and dance sequences in the streets, in practice rooms, in restaurants, in studios, in bars, in front of the Bellagio Fountains, on motorcycles, on TV, on the harbour, on buses, on the stage, on another stage in the US, and amid a monolith of a canyon structure, then ABCD 2 (Any Body Can Dance 2) has more than enough dancing for all.

» No trip to the Netherlands is complete without a visit to the tulip fields. And the best place for tulips is Keukenhof, one of the most beautiful spring gardens in the world. It happens that the park, which is located in Lisse, a small village southwest of Amsterdam, is open only from mid-March to mid-May every year. So the good news is you have almost one whole year to plan if you wish to visit this special place during next year’s long Songkran holiday.

» Uncle Nelson Howe sent 3 million viewers into hysterical laughing fits when a viral video of him swearing in Thai was posted on YouTube in March. Scripted, directed and shot in just a day by Salmon Books' cash cow writer, Thanachart "Benz" Siripatrachai, the video propelled Thanachart's book it was unashamedly peddling — New York 1st Time — to bestseller status.

» ‘This will all be bulldozed,” said Maj Gen Surakai Chattumart, director of the Army Welfare Department and Lumpini stadium master. “It will become complete emptiness — I guess it does feel a bit like seeing your home destroyed. It’s like losing something, but if it’s for the better, it’s something we should all accept.”

#Protestday is not supposed to be a #win

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 24/01/2014

» Once upon a decade ago, right around this time of the year, I would stand in front of my house waiting for my school bus to pick me up _ with a jittery unease which only came in the cold season. As the minutes ticked by, my anxiety would escalate exponentially from worries that my scatterbrain bus driver had forgotten to pick me up. But forgetfulness aside, it was completely normal for buses to show up a whole, fat hour late during this month in Europe. If he didn't come, it would be because of a shrill ring from my home telephone and two particularly glorious words to be heard from the other end: "Hi Parisa, today's a snow day."

If you change nothing, then nothing will change

» Why do bus drivers in Bangkok drive like F1 racers on ya ba? Because that's the way things are. Why do the trains we use still look no different from when my late grandfather was a young man? Because that's the way things are. Why are motorcycle-taxi drivers completely okay with speeding through a red light? Well boo-hoo-hoo and too bad. Because that's just the way things are.
