    Fast, not furious

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 11/04/2022

» Niche filmmaker Nawapol "Ter" Thamrongrattanarit has a great knack for making small and simple stories into big ones. Most of Nawapol's movies revolve around the daily lives of people in the big city. In 2015, Nawapol defined his first major studio film Heart Attack as "a routine life of a freelance graphic designer". Or Happy Old Year, a high drama film from 2019 in which he simply replied in an interview: "A story about home reorganisation." But most Nawapol fans know that those movies are more profound than the simple definition of the director.

    A passing fancy

» A dystopian near future warzone, robots and AI, Russian terrorists, action-packed firefights with tons of bullets and explosions. The story of a drone pilot who has to team up with an android officer in a top secret mission in order to save the world from a nuclear attack. Judging by its premise, the latest futuristic war film Outside The Wire seems to have all the ingredients good sci-fi action movies should have. And while it's setting the scene for what we can expect, that's not always necessarily a good thing as Outside The Wire feels like a middling effort with an ineffective gimmick and undercooked script.

    Alien threat returns

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 23/07/2021

» Over the past few years, it's been amazing to see Chris Pratt's transition to a mega action star from a small role as Andy, a goofy boyfriend in the sitcom Parks And Recreation, to more sci-fi and action roles like Peter Quill/Star-Lord in The Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise, a mysterious mechanical engineer in space thriller Passengers with Jennifer Lawrence or dinosaur researcher Owen Grady in the Jurassic World franchise. Now Pratt is using his skills to play a military scientist with daddy issues who goes against time on a mission to save the world from an alien invasion in The Tomorrow War. Although lacking an original idea, with parts of the story derived from many past sci-fi hits, The Tomorrow War is still an enjoyable action-adventure with adrenaline-fuelled chase sequences.
