Anonymous commented : In order to understand intermarriage, we must also understand the context in which the subject's relationship has occured. I strongly believe that intermarriage does demand for greater understanding and communication between two people, as there are many variables which will influence the behavior of the relationship. We often see the image of Thai (Asian) men as being undesirable because of how the society has portray them to be , a character of weak personality and lacking ambitions. Mostr well to do Thai women has strong ambitions and desire for stablity, which is why most have opted for a western men because of their outgoing personality and stability. Thai men (Asian) lack stability, and usually has to work hard to earn some recognition from the well to do Thai women (although the women wouldn't even think of having a relationship with a poor thai men). The well to do Thai males are quite rare, most who do poccess the stability and wealth are usually overseas studying or working abroad and has much little contact with the Thai society. Because of this, the Thais that have lived abroad begins to assimilate the culture of the foreign host country and will unfortunately neglect the Thai way of life (either losing language or mannerism). Many of these well to do Thai men eventually opt for a western women because of similar values and most importantly is their outlook in life which has been assimilated by the host country. Since the Thai society is very liberal, be it from Buddism values or just poor public discipline by the government, intermarriage is a norm in the society. I am not against intermarriage, but I think Thai girls should really give the Thai men a closer look, especially the well to do Thai men whom have lived abroad. Rather than judging them with demeaning stereotypes with negativity, the Thai girls (especially the well to do) should not only opt for a western men, but consider Thai men as being their potential partner. The men and women of Thailand really do need to learn to understand one another more with no preconceptions.

Anonymous commented : Why are foreigners worry about owning LAND? If you live in Thailand with your family, you have or/and will children. Your children could buy and own land. Your Thai wives could own land, and you could own other things like condo and etc.. In the pass, foreign men used and abused their privileges by earning their Thai rights through their Thai wives and their marriages were arranged to gain these rights. These laws will continue to be enforced since most Thais and Thailand still living in less than the First World status with low earning and buying powers comparing to foreigners from the First World nations or rich Asians who wished to control markets in Thailand. It is not hard for a single foreign entity to buy up all available land in Thailand since Thailand is a small country. Example: you can examine some countries Africa where whites owned most of the agricultural land, or in South America where only few descendents of European families owned most of the land.

Anonymous commented : Juta, I am not a Tai. I am a product of 1,000 years plus of Siam and current Thailand. I do love my roots and history. and enjoy tracking them down. I do knew that all my ancestors have their roots as southern Asian stocks. Without mentioning our roots, if people bornt in Thailand and living in Thailand than they should respect the land and the people who cultivated and died for this land. I said many times in this forum that if you wanted to live like someone elses, then you should go live in those places other than in Thailand. We, Thais, always respect those countries where we visited and lived or currently living...because it is our way of live, and we are taught by our ancestors. Juta, i would forgive Ian and all other colonialists like the Cochins since they have lost their indigenous cultures long long times ago by various invaders of their European homelands. They have lost touch with their spiritual ancestors and worshipping foreign gods and things. In some sense, they were colonized totally long ago.

Anonymous commented : Ian, how do you know that I did not. I am scientifically trained individual and have mentioned many times in this forum about genetic base ancestries. The 1,000 plus of the current timeline of Siam and Thailand is started with movement and formation of Tai tribes to form confederated muang starting with many Tai chiefs like King Mung-Rai or King Mang-Rai, the founder of Chaing-rai. That does not mean that southern Asians do not have long expanded history like those Asian Pyramids inside the PRC borders. Juta, you can disregard many names that were given to indigenous people of Asia by colonialists since names will confuse you and thinking that they are differences among them. Oh, Ian. You can have genetic test done on yourselves to find out the percentage of your genetic make-up of yourselve like 50% northern Asian, 10% Celt, 20% Saxon, 10% Roman, and 10% Jute. There are now available human genome pool for testing comparison.

Anonymous commented : I enjoy reading everyone's messages with interest. I'm not speaking for any Thai lady but my own. Marriage is between the two people and if your future wife agrees to marry you because she loves you and wants to spend the rest of her life with you - money should not be the factor. It's difficult for me to understand that many Thai parents expect certain some of monetary compensation from their future son-in-law. Especailly in your case when you live from pay check to pay check. I appreciate that 'Dowery' is a culture thing not only in Thailand but in many other Asian countries as well. But I don't believe it's the 'do' or 'die' situation. When my husband & I got married, 'dowery' had never come into our mind. I marry him because i love him and that should be it. Why spend such a lump sum of money when you can save for the future!! I'm proud of being Thai and I have nothing against my culture but if you have to go bankrupt just because you love someone, I think it's absurb!! My only advice for you is to talk to your future wife about your situation. It's time to find out whether she loves you for what you are and not what you own.

Anonymous commented : What is the motive for this wealthy girl to beg you to marry her other than being ignorant? If she does have tourist visa, she could ask any men in the USA to marry her since she would be some Asian freeby to them. And it is not uncommon for Asian girls and women to arrive in developed countries with some type of visas, then they are actually pursuing some foreign for husbands. I am thinking that she either very ignorant and or very unattractive person. On the other hand, her family could steal somethings and or on the verge of bankruptcy.?

Anonymous commented : Well, it is a form of discrimination. What is wrong with bar-girls, uneducated girls, or girls with low paying profession? Do you think that there are no educated bar-girls? Well, we are not talking about a matter of fairness or what is right, now. British colonies had been full of mostly rejects from UK. A few poor Asian girls would break UK banks or social fabrics since your Diana girls are over Europe and other places also.?? Love has no border or boundary. I knew many Thais and foreign men with uneducated wives, and they are happier than I am.

Anonymous commented : dena are areas that have many asian people living and working and you would likely find no shortage of friends. I live in Hawaii and know many Thai and other asian people and we don't think any differently of one another. Perhaps you moved to follow your professional goals, but that may not be the best direction for you socially. I'm not very familiar with Utah, but my impression is that they are not no open minded as southern californians. All the best.

Anonymous commented : Rad. Do you known that Canada has socialized healthcare system like in Thailand? If you are not comfortable in Thailand or in Idaho, Idaho is in the American heartland. These people do not give a nutcracker about foreigners. In their views, foreigners came to USA because Americans and America are better than their own homelands. Canada is more rural than USA unless you are living in the urban area, and Canada is many times colder than USA. It seemed like you are a urbanited person. You might considering finding American urban area with high population of Asians like Chineses and Vietnameses. San Francisco is an example beside New York, Houston, or Hawaii. US west coast cities will have the highest Chineses, Vietnameses, and Japaneses. Thais are mostly highest in LA, NY, and Florida.

Does thai society accept intermarriages?
By Anonymous, Created on: 19/09/2003, Last updated on: 09/05/2006
» The thai men that are undesirable are usually uneducated ones who try to get through life by being sleazy. This is why alot of thai women are turned off by marrying a thai man. Typical thai males are fairly unambitious, narrow-minded, and judgemental. I think that its the society that is teaching...
family visa
By Anonymous, Created on: 02/01/2004, Last updated on: 12/09/2006
» When the Thai government will allow foreigners with Thai spouse and children to own a one year visa without the need to travel out of the country every 3 month or to show 800 thousands bahts in a bank account, this is very unfair and even most of the Thais don't earn this sum per year, why this discrimination...
