Thais are taught that, "when ...in foreign country, ...do what foreigners do" or i.e. we should simply go with the flow. I too asked a lot of questions when I first came back to visit Thailand more than 10 years ago. I found that understanding the language is the most important thing. Laughter does have different meanings in Thai culture like "sanook and sabai sabai" or "have fun and don't worry, be happy." Lives are hard already in the rural area so people tried to relax. By nature, Thais are not selfish people. Zemran mentioned cartoon t-shirt. Cartoon characters on t-shirts from foreign countries are also rare commodity in Thailand like those American cartoon characters. Thai children or adults love to read them Marvel comic books and wearing their favor characters on t-shirts too.
