» Patents, commercial innovation and trade monopoly are often bracketed together. The recent dispute between Starbucks, the coffee conglomerate, and Starbung, a roadside coffee stall, over a trademark logo might leave a sour taste and bad perception of the strong arm of intellectual property. Yet Peter Willimott, director of the Singapore office of the World Intellectual Property Organization (Wipo), said the issue of intellectual property is not solely about lawsuits and monopoly.

» Every party comes to an end. So too does the 2012 London Olympic Games, which arrives at its curtain call on Sunday. At the closing ceremony, all eyes will shift to Rio de Janeiro, the city that will take over the torch. Brazil is another BRIC countries _ a new emerging economy beside China, India and Russia _ that plays host to the Games. (Please stand up India, as I am totally convinced that a New Delhi or Mumbai Summer Olympics will shame London and Beijing.)
