    Futuristic retail wonderland

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 09/06/2016

» Our country's parks, museums and libraries are in a sorry state, but at least we get our malls right. Imagine if our malls were complete rubbish as well! At least the ones made by Siam Piwat aren't and their latest unveiling of Siam Discovery, 4 billion baht of renovations later, is a spectacular splash of cubic and futuristic interiors, with a wide, modern space that is quite unlike what other places offer. Literally a retail wonderland with a brightly-lit ambience that no longer skimps on the wattage, the dazzling, digital vibes this mall gives off now cements itself as a marvel to be gaped at by even the most sophisticated shoppers from around the world. It's only the fact that there isn't a toilet on every single floor that's keeping us from giving this new revamp full points.

» With his square-rimmed black glasses, perfectly-gelled hair and tall, lanky build, Isaac Hempstead Wright looks like the geeky but cute wallflower BFF that's just dropped out of a Hollywood teen flick. Of course, it was actually dropping out of a tower -- after witnessing Operation Incest -- that he is known for, in his role as Bran Stark from the wildly-popular series Game Of Thrones.

Robbing from the rich, but giving to whom?

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 26/09/2014

» Life has meaning again, now that Downton Abbey has returned to our TV screens, its fifth season beginning last Sunday. Its otherworldly visuals continue to draw me in, with the upstairs goings-on of the aristocrats and the downstairs drama among the servants still as captivating as ever. I actually have to remind myself every time I watch an episode that people from another continent in this world of ours actually lived like this less than 100 years ago: that cooks had to dine separately from the rest of the servants in a stately home; that members of the upper class changed clothes as often as five times a day; that it was inconceivable that a proper lady or gentleman would have to perform actual work to earn a living.

    Inside warring Westeros

» Blood and boobs can be enough to disorient any viewer, but even without all that, Game Of Thrones may be for some, about the most confusing series ever without its illustrative opening sequence. Thanks to the countless cities and honourable (ahem) houses that rule over them, keeping track of the characters and locations almost require note-taking and a session on Wikipedia post-watching.
