A good quarter for Apple and looking to the future

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 08/02/2017

» Last week, Apple released figures for its most recent quarter, which includes the run up to the new year. There was revenue of US$78.4 billion, beating Wall Street experts again. We must wait for the often-predicted doom a little while longer. Apple thinks revenue for the next quarter should be between $51.5-53.5 billion.

Worth waiting for

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 21/12/2016

» Apple announced its US$159 (5,700 baht) AirPods at the same time as the iPhone 7, but the Bluetooth-connected device was not made available to customers until last week. There was much online speculation that a problem was found in the production models, so the release was put back. It would have been wrong to release a device with a known problem for a number of obvious reasons.

iPhone 7 officially coming

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 19/10/2016

» The iPhone 7 will be on sale in Thailand on Friday and I checked prices on some online sites. Dtac was hiding its information behind passwords: only for those who had pre-ordered. True showed the new iPhones contract-free, from 26,500 baht for the 32GB iPhone 7 up to 39,500 baht for the 256GB iPhone 7 Plus.

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 14/09/2016

» Last week in San Francisco Apple announced new versions of the Apple Watch along with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The event focused only on these devices leaving Mac owners fretting. A comment from Tim Cook suggests there will be updated Macs coming soon.

Contain yourself, the new iPhone is here

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 04/11/2015

» Apple made a lot of money last quarter and is on for a record year. Those predicting lower sales in China were utterly wrong. Wall Street is ringing its hands because (they say) this sort of growth cannot be sustained and Apple will fail. I guess eventually, the Sun will stop shining too, but not yet. Predictions are usually pinned on share price and growth; but Apple's products, and profits, are better indicators.

Lovely New iDevice arrivals in Bangkok and elsewhere

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 22/07/2015

» Apple has been busy as of late and yesterday the latest quarterly figures were announced. I am writing this a few days before, so the results will be online elsewhere. Apple's predictions and those of Wall Street suggest that this was expected to be another good quarter. Already reports have shown that Mac sales have increased by 16% in a shrinking PC market and that Apple takes the lion's share of profits for smartphone sales.

New Apple iPads and Macs evolve but don't surprise

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 22/10/2014

» Last week in Cupertino, Tim Cook along with Craig Federighi and Phil Schiller introduced some more new products which were more along the lines of a logical evolution rather than major surprises. Nonetheless, eyebrows were raised a little, especially by a new iMac.

Countdown to Sept 9 - the known & the unknown

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 03/09/2014

» Last week, Apple finally sent out invitations to the media and confirmed that it will hold an event next Tuesday, Sept 9. There have been so many reports in the last few months about what Apple is about to do, yet not a word came from Apple until that invitation with its enigmatic, one-line message: "Wish we could say more", and the date, "9.9.2014".

Mother's little helpers

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 09/04/2014

» There are several ways to navigate quickly round OS X, starting at the bottom of the screen with the Dock. This displays icons of several applications including any currently open, plus some minimised documents or browser pages. With the cursor over a Dock icon, click and hold opens a menu in a black frame with options for the file or application. These differ if the application is running or not.

iOS4 installation and Notes on the iPhone 4 release

Database, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 07/07/2010

» I had really been looking forward to the iPhone update, known as iOS4, since it was outlined by Apple. A number of features looked as if they would be useful. Some of these brought iPad tricks to the smaller devices. It was developed for the new iPhone 4, of course, and is optimised for that device. Fewer features are available for earlier iPhones. Those before the 3G (and early iPod touch devices) could not install the update at all.
