» Created by Rush Pleansuk, the mythology of the goddess Mekhala being chased by the thunder deity Ramasura is depicted through nang yai, or a grand shadow play, at the art exhibition "Ramasura". Rush is best known as the winner of the 2019 Designer of the Year award from the Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce. He is also a co-founder of the design company Sumphat Gallery, and the architecture company Sumphat Space. The artist confessed that although he works on design for a living, his true passion is art.

Hashtags of hate

» A week ago, the hashtags #BanSitala and #BanLuknang returned to social media again after K-pop girl group H1-Key dropped their debut music video Athletic Girl and performed in an online press conference. These hashtags appeared for the first time last December when South Korean entertainment agency Grandline Group (GLG) announced the debut of H1-Key, which included Thai singer Sitala Wongkrachang as the rapper. Sitala is the daughter of the famous late actor and political activist Saranyu Wongkrachang. When Thai anti-government supporters and K-pop fans discovered that Sitala had entered the industry, they were furious as her family had a role in the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) rallies, which led to the 2014 coup. They accused her of being a supporter of a dictatorship.

» Looking back on the year in music, the global phenomenon BTS helped propel the fan base expansion of K-pop groups into the United States. BTS, the seven-member boy band, continues to break recording history and open new frontiers for Asian artists. In March, IFPI, the organisation that represents the recorded music industry worldwide, named BTS as its Global Recording Artist of the Year 2020. The septet won over Taylor Swift, Drake, The Weeknd and Billie Eilish, who ranked second to fifth place respectively. The boy band was the first Asian artist to win the IFPT Global Recording Artist of the Year Award.

A swim for the sea

» In late April, Psi Scott, a Scottish-Thai marine conservationist, along with 36 volunteers set a new record for Southeast Asia in a swimming relay of over 70km, crossing the Andaman Sea to raise awareness about marine conservation and plastic waste reduction. Psi also became the youngest swimmer to establish a new open sea swimming record for Asia -- 50km in two days without equipment.
