Healthy cravings

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 03/03/2017

» We swung by Daily Fix one busy Wednesday lunchtime at Central World, in dire need of something healthy. Too many coffees, cha yens and French fries had taken over our diets. Daily Fix marks the perfect stop for fast food that doesn't forget about or fall short in proper nutrition. From smoothies, salads and adaptations of Thai favourites to hearty protein-laden meals and build-your-own-fixes, if you're someone who cares about what they're putting into their body, then this is the place you should be going to. Plus, if you work in the area, this option is far better than sitting at your desk and stuffing your face with 7-Eleven salapao or cheese toasties. You *do* want to live longer, right?

A North Fest you won't forget

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 24/02/2017

» Oozing the same appeal as a vampiric rock God and donning picture-perfect porcelain skin that would make any woman green with an envy, actor/singer and famed Thai celeb Dome Pakorn Lam was answering floods of calls about his new project in Chiang Mai when we sat down to interview him. This is one celeb that means business. Completing his look was an army green barber jacket and black jeans that had chains dangling from the sides; we thought this fashion trend had died down years ago but somehow Dome made it hot again. We got to grips with Dome's true passion in life, music, and what he's doing right now to fulfil this passion.

For regal palates

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 03/02/2017

» The setting: There's a sacred ruby of a restaurant tucked away in the deep depths of Sukhumvit Soi 13, officially housed within the Radisson Suites but, on approach, it looks grand enough to be a stand-alone. A royal blue awning, pressed with the golden crest of Punjab Grill's internationally recognised lion covers the arched wooden doors. When you step through, a world of class and elegance cascades over you; the interior exudes a warm and contemporary atmosphere that somehow mixes in a "British India" colonial feel; warm wooden floors, red tints, high ceilings, long golden curtains and of course, a Chesterfield sofa form parts of the magnificent whole. You won't feel cooped up in here, that's for sure. There's an open kitchen featuring three authentic copper and clay tandoor ovens.

Pre-game for Wonderfruit

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 03/02/2017

» Alright guys, the Siamese fields of wonderment are no longer a figment of our imagination, they are in fact a reality fast approaching. Winter is gone. In fact, it never came. But that's beside the point. Wondefruit is coming. Wonderfruit is almost here. You know, that festival we've been waiting for since last year? Yes, that one.

New-age soul food

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 27/01/2017

» Veganism is no longer just a fad Bangkokians are falling into, it's becoming a way of life. And thankfully, there are a growing number of restaurants in the city that will cater to this life choice. Not enough, but we're getting there. If you hate the thought of eating like a vegan, let's just say there really is no need to hate.

» Are you excited for Mystic Valley or what? Frankly, we couldn't think of anything better than spending three days in a luscious green valley in the cool depths of Khao Yai, listening to nothing but your favourite music. Because at Mystic Valley, there's a stage for everyone. So long as you're into electronic music, or hip hop, that is. If you're into country, best to leave this one out sweetheart.

Travelling with a true heart

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 27/01/2017

» This week, we sat down with Natalie Glebova, a remarkable woman whose name needs no introduction in our city. Travelling the world, becoming a mother and spearheading humanitarian causes that give back to communities are among some of the things she's been up to lately.

Sourced it

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 06/01/2017

» THE SETTING: On the ground floor of The Commons is a nice little deli I often go to to stock up on the good stuff i.e. local raw nut cheese (don't knock it till you try it), manchego cheese (for when I'm cheating with dairy), garlic infused olive oil (to keep the boys away), protein balls (haha), goji berries and nuts. Lots of nuts. By default, as it's my local, Sourced has become my fairly expensive go-to for natural -- not organic -- goods. Good food costs you. Yet, it was only recently that I decided to have a sit-down meal here.

The power of rice

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 30/12/2016

» My mother used to tell me to put sake on my face as it was just as good, if not better -- and cheaper -- than the expensive La Mer products she'd always bought previously.
