To markets, To (Indie) markets

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 12/09/2014

» You would think Bangkokians have their shopping needs fulfilled to the brim already, given the ever-growing number of malls out there. To the contrary, there are many more special marketplaces that are popping up around the capital to offer different vibes and goodies. This weekend alone there will be two niche markets – Million Bike Market for bicyclists and Pet Design Fair for dog and cat people. We have decided to help you diversify your shopping experience with our pick of indie markets. We can’t be held responsible if you run out of cash before the end of the month, though.

» Some of you may be feeling like you have to give up your weekend bar-hopping since today is Asarnha Bucha Day and tomorrow is Buddhist Lent Day (never thought these holy days would appear on our sin-filled pages, did you?). Instead of giving you tips for being ordained into monkhood or what kind of animal to release to gain the most merit, we want to help you nurture your spirituality with our selection of peace-loving havens that can be found right here in Bangkok. We also have other cool ways to make merit without having to get up super early to give alms to Buddhist monks. May the inner peace be with you.

Community chest

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 16/05/2014

» Since we all spend a big chunk of our waking hours on Facebook, maybe we should do something more worthwhile than stalking hotties and complaining about traffic jams (or Cookie Run requests). Perhaps you want to create a community page where people can share common interests, showcase their talents, and/or just have their day brightened up. If so, you’re in luck because we’ve undergone the discomfort of researching from our office chair nine Thai Facebook pages with creative ideas and uses. Take a cue from them should you want to become a Facebook star one day. Or just check them out for your own entertainment.

Pop culture explosion

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 09/05/2014

» Darth Vader and his Stormtroopers will invade Bangkok this weekend! And no, we’re not saying that as a side effect of the Star Wars marathon we went on to celebrate Star Wars Day (May 4) or the announcement of the Star Wars: Episode VII cast. It’s because Thailand Comic Con 2014 is taking place from today until Sunday (May 9-11) at Siam Paragon and the arch-villain and his soldiers will make an appearance there. This week, to help you embrace your inner geek (we all have one — don’t be in denial), we present what you can expect from the pop culture event along with other ways to geek out in Bangkok.

» This year’s Halloween falls on Thursday (Oct 31), and we have already been celebrating by sending LINE Halloween stickers to friends for weeks now. Such antics have gotten us thinking about certain scary beings that have become synonymous with the day. For our own entertainment (and hopefully yours too), we compare six well-known Thai ghosts based on six criteria to find the ultimate mascot for Thai Halloween. Use our picks to inspire your costume, or just continue to be amused by the local fascination with spirits.
