» During my recent assignment to Koh Kong province in Cambodia, I came across a project of forest concession for tourism. Situated on the southwestern corner of the country, Koh Kong is home to different forests that play a significant role in the country's rainfall and general environment.

» The cool season has arrived in Thailand and this is the best time to enjoy pla thu. Pla thu (Rastrelliger brachysoma) or short-bodied mackerel is widely available in the Gulf of Thailand. The fish is very popular among Thais. It can be simply served as fried pla thu, or developed into various dishes. In the past, its low price made it a cheap food for the poor, even for cats. However, pla thu is now rather expensive. A 15cm pla thu can be priced around 25-30 baht each.

» Every time I get an assignment in China, old images of chaotic cities pop up in my mind. From the country's notorious images of dirty toilets where severe smells always frighten foreigners, no queuing, noisy conversations, to the hustle and bustle of narrow roads where bicycles, tricycles, motorcycles, cars, and trucks share the same route and try to criss-cross each other, for me a trip to China means language barriers and a massive culture shock.

» Cargo cranes lift colourful containers into gigantic ships at the huge Busan port. Traffic slowly eases toward Gwangan Bridge, passing beaches and islands that scatter the coast. The Sun is about to set and darkness slowly blankets colourful houses on the Gamcheon Culture Village slope. Light from seaside skyscrapers reflects on the seawater at the marina, as restaurants and beach bars light up for the night. Tourists fill the streets, looking for fun.
A lesson in development
