» Entering the foyer of Shang Palace Restaurant at the Shangri-La Hotel (adjacent Taksin BTS -- Tel. 02 236 7777) you are greeted with chinoiserie straight out of a Bruce Lee film. The most outstanding features are a gilded Buddha and a classically styled Chinese calligraphy painting by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, translating to "living in the lost horizon," a nod to James Hilton’s 1933 novel "Lost Horizon", which contributed the term "shangri la" to the English lexicon.
