Perhaps it is fitting that the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, second only in importance to the Spring Festival, brings with it another Chinese delight – the moon cake.

» Banglamung civic officials and police descended on entertainment venues on Walking Street and Soi Buakhao in search of illegal drug use, underage drinkers and licence irregularities as the crackdown on booze-driven crime continues apace. In some establishments Thai nationals were told to provide urine specimens for analysis. Some 15 men and women were escorted to the police station for an in-depth chat. One club owner had fled the scene before the police marched in and turned on the lights; he is being sought by investigators as the paperwork from the city authorities was found to be incomplete.

» Following a tip-off from a stool pigeon, police raided three pharmacies in Central Pattaya that were selling the sex-enhancing drug Kamagra. Staff at the three retail outlets admitted they knew about the pills which were brought secretly to Pattaya from a Bangkok factory. They added that most of the sales went to older foreigners who didn’t care whether the pills were authentic or not, just as long as they worked. Statements from staff were taken at the police station and the matter referred to the prosecutor’s office.

» Concerned about college of technology students involved in selling prohibited substances, police used an undercover agent to arrange to meet 25 year old Thongchai Wiansamut outside a petrol station in Banglamung. Regular police then seized the suspect who took police to his home where they found 200 gms of the ice drug in six sealed plastic bags.

» Jetsada Thanee, aged 19, was arrested in front of the Darunibada Mosque, Suklhumvit Road, whilst talking on his mobile phone. He confessed that he had bought illegal substances from Chudom Ngampaiboonsab, also 19, who lives in Naklua. A police inspection of the room revealed a total of 5,000 methamphetamine tablets. Police say they are still searching for the principal dealer.
