» Ours is a world of impunity. Allegations of corruption swarmed around Fifa for decades, culminating in mass indictments of Fifa officials last week. Yet Fifa president Sepp Blatter was re-elected four times, including after the indictments were filed. Yes, Mr Blatter has finally resigned, but only after he and dozens of federation members once again showed their scorn for honesty and the law.

» It was sad, if not downright alarming, to hear the head of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission at his most recent public appearance. Speaking about proposed 4G telecom services, Takorn Tantasith, secretary-general of the broadcasting regulator, said he "believes" mobile phone companies want to provide 4G data services. And he thinks bringing in 4G could promote a spending windfall.
