It's all about Thaksin

News, Voranai Vanijaka, Published on 18/08/2013

» Over the past two years or so, anti-government groups have launched many rallies and campaigns to regain power. Thus far, they've all failed to gain much momentum.

Recalling those thrilling days of yesteryear

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 14/07/2013

» Ancient enough to have been brought up on the original Lone Ranger series on black and white television in the 1950s, I couldn't resist sneaking down to the cinema this week to see how they approach "those thrilling tales of yesteryear" a scary six decades later.

Strange case of the smiling corpse

News, Published on 16/06/2013

» Regarding the story, ''Akeyuth's sister backs theft motive'' and the accompanying front page photograph in yesterday's Bangkok Post, the police practice of ''re-enacting'' crimes reached farcical proportions with the photo of Sutthipong Pimpisarn re-enacting the murder of Akeyuth Anchabutr. Mr Suthipong is shown holding a shoelace loosely bunched in one hand and dangling from his thumb on the other hand as he softly strangles the stand-in for the deceased.

A great and powerful world close to home

Life, Usnisa Sukhsvasti, Published on 18/03/2013

» The beautiful thing about this column is that I never know what I'm going to write about until I actually sit down in front of the computer and see a blank screen. » It seems only fair to pay tribute to the 24 candidates that didn't quite make it at last week's Big Mango election. Lest we forget, for months these people acted above and beyond the call of duty in the name of democracy, sweating their way around Bangkok's steamy streets, sporting those fixed grins so beloved by politicians.

Mighty Oscars offer grains of historical truth

News, Published on 23/02/2013

» General Pinochet falls. The French uprising falls. The Iranian mullahs fall. The Danish monarchy almost falls. Bin Laden, naturally, because this is Hollywood, falls. The Democrats, up against Lincoln savvy, fall. Constitutional slavery also falls.

'Les Mis' reigns on film, minus the message

News, Kong Rithdee, Published on 09/02/2013

» The verdict is unanimous: Russell Crowe has crowed himself into semi-embarrassment, veins tense and uvula quivering, in the latest film version of the musical Les Miserables, while Anne, dear Anne Hathaway, dreaming a dream in Napoleonic France, has won and will win every supporting-actress prize around with her tonsured turn as the wretched Fantine.

Belle of the mall

Guru, Sumati Sivasiamphai, Published on 18/01/2013

» Beautiful crowds yelling "Wooooo!" Local and foreign celebrity appearances. Social media overload with pictures being uploaded every five seconds. Glitz and glam adding to the fanfare. And of course, massive traffic congestion in the surrounding areas.
