Future forward

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 31/12/2021

» Today is the last day of 2021 and depending on when you’re reading this, you may only have a few more hours or even just minutes to say goodbye to the year that’s basically been a repetition of 2020. There have been a number of ups and downs as we went through another lockdown and reopening, but the good news is that we made it: we’re still here and still trudging along, though some of us would really like to get a breather from all the craziness.

A bloody Irish jaunt

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 28/05/2021

» You would think that a game as massive as Assassin's Creed Valhalla wouldn't need an expansion and yet here's Wrath Of The Druids, which was released earlier this month. Tagged by Ubisoft as only the first major expansion in an unknown number to come, the add-on gives the already hefty game even more stories, mysteries and locations to discover and explore. But is more necessarily better?

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 23/10/2020

» Thailand is known as "The Land Of Smiles" because everyone here is happy and joyful all the time... right? As true as that is, there are certain things you can do here that can turn that smile upside down.

Morals & immortals

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 03/07/2020

» The prospect of being immortal may seem like a good idea at first, but the immortals of Netflix's new film, The Old Guard, are dealing with hundreds -- some even thousands -- of years' worth of baggage while being hunted down. Based on the graphic novel of the same name, the film follows Andromache of Scythia aka Andy and her group of immortal mercenaries, who have been doing assignments all throughout history but managing to keep their existence unknown. That is, until Copley and Merrick show up, an ex-CIA agent and a pharma company CEO who wants to capture them because they may have the genetic key that will provide a solution to the world's sicknesses. Guru spoke to Chiwetel Ejiofor, who plays Copley; Harry Melling, who plays Merrick; and the three immortal mercenaries: Marwan Kenzari, Matthias Schoenaerts and Luca Marinelli.

Don't rain on my parade

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 19/07/2019

» The rainy season is in full swing and downpours are becoming more and more common, so us Bangkokians are either being rained upon or being beaten down by heat, so yay! While the rain (or the heat) tempts us all to lock ourselves up at home, that doesn't have to be the case. Rainy days don't necessarily mean bingeing Netflix shows (nothing bad about that though, you do you). But if you're getting a little bit of cabin fever and think that the pesky rain is keeping you from fun and entertaining stuff, think again. Guru has listed a number of indoor activities during the monsoons.

Don't look down!

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 07/12/2018

» The Big Mango is home to a beautiful skyline and a number of towering skyscrapers. A casual walk along Sukhumvit or Sathon and a glance upwards will prove this to be true, but towering behemoths aren't enough these days. The latest trend are skywalks and high-elevated walkways -- clear glass-bottomed floors that give you an unhindered sight of the many, many feet below, turn your legs to jelly and make your stomach turn. Of course, many are braving these side effects for the sake of a great photo and IG post. Are you willing to take on these heights for 'Gram? Pick one of the five or visit all and test your mettle.

Just a couple of foodies

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 09/02/2018

» It's that time of the year when couples come out in full-force, restaurants are jampacked, roses and chocolates are more expensive, and single people are more bitter than usual. Yes, St Valentine's Day is upon us and that means couples all over the place. We could have just given you a list of places you could go to for a special dinner (actually, we did -- check our Food listings). But in lieu of the upcoming "festivities", if you could call it that, we decided to round up a number of foodie power couples to get to know their favourite restos and what they do during on this romantic day. Perhaps we noobs could learn a thing or two from them.

Thai references gone wrong

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 04/08/2017

» There's nothing like that feeling of pride when we see Thailand being mentioned somewhere in movies, sitcoms or games even. The Land of Smiles' big break would probably be the James Bond film, The Man With The Golden Gun. Aside from movies, Thai food has been getting a lot of recognition as well and it's always such a delight when we hear the gang from The Big Bang Theory mention that they're going to have Thai for dinner as they all gather around, sitting on the couch. While we are definitely pleased with the references being made to Thailand, there are some of them that are... well, wrong. We do realise these are all fictional, but we've compiled some of our favourites anyway for your entertainment.
