Army chief paranoid?

News, Postbag, Published on 28/09/2019

» Re: "Apirat says B12bn of US arms 'a necessity'", (BP, Sept 26). Every time I read the army's attempt to justify their need for more extremely violent weapons, I get the feeling that the main qualification necessary for the head of the army is that he needs to be extremely paranoid. Who does he think is going to attack us? The last attack on the army that I remember was some guy who rammed a tank with his taxi at or near the Royal Plaza. Is the army commander afraid that it will be a whole fleet of taxis next time?

Begging for a drink

» There is a shortage of fresh water. It happens most years and is far from unexpected. Where is the rainmaking initiative? Maybe the government has forgotten about it in the same way that they have forgotten everyone but themselves.

PPRP, earn our trust

News, Postbag, Published on 14/07/2019

» Re: "Dress code a non-issue", (Editorial, July 12). Effective organisations and countries prioritise issues to be attacked in terms of importance, putting the most important first; the Palang Pracharath Party, core of the new government, should do the same instead of focusing on minor items like dress codes for MPs. The PPRP wasn't voters' first choice until election rules were changed after votes had been counted, and took over four months to form a cabinet overflowing with scandal-tainted and/or Thaksin-affiliated faces.

Open your eyes

News, Postbag, Published on 27/06/2019

» Re: "FFP must clarify", (PostBag, June 25). Does Vint Chavala seriously believe, or believe that anyone else believes, that Thailand needs the amazing excess of army generals living high off the nation? For what, exactly? The most conspicuous achievement of that extraordinary number of army generals has for many decades been to protect the existence of generals busily plotting political careers allied to unusual wealth, which many suspect to be the primary reason Thailand has been so afflicted by military coups against its form of democratic government with a constitutional monarchy.

Are they high?

News, Postbag, Published on 10/04/2019

» I find it amazing that while there are factories in the countries north of us producing tens of millions of methamphetamine pills everyday for years, some of which are smuggled into Thailand, the Narcotics Control Board chooses to spend its time and energy raiding some small marijuana farm in Suphan Buri where they are apparently developing the byproducts of marijuana so they can be used in a healthful way.
