Dire lack of security?

News, Postbag, Published on 11/02/2020

» We are all too familiar with the events that occurred at Terminal 21 in Korat. It seems that every article concentrates on what happened after the shooter arrived at the mall. But what is not being mentioned is what occurred prior to his arrival. What we know is that he shot his superior officer and, according to the news article, he then stole a collection of arms and ammunition. This would lead one to believe that he was armed prior to obtaining the weapons used in the attack. He then took his haul and went to another location and stole a vehicle which he then drove off the base to the mall. So why was the soldier armed in the first place? As I recall weapons in barracks were kept in a secure location, locked and issued individually as needed. All transactions were recorded, and an inventory taken daily.

Better safe than sorry

News, Postbag, Published on 30/01/2020

» Thailand's very fortunate that we've had only a few cases of coronavirus to date but for-hire drivers, such as those of taxis, Grab, tour drivers and guides should wear surgical masks whenever they're in contact with others. This is to protect them from possibly becoming infected from their passengers or tour members and to lessen the chances of them infecting others.

Oblivious army

News, Postbag, Published on 27/09/2019

» According to the latest UN report on rising sea levels, Bangkok is one of the cities that will be experiencing yearly floods 30 years from now. If the military was really serious about protecting the country, they would be using their budget to move their more vulnerable installations to higher ground and buying equipment to combat floods instead of the attack helicopters, missiles and rockets that army commander Gen Apirat Kongsompong wants.
