» I agree with Khun Veera Prateepchaikul in "Is it really time to seize the power?" (Opinion, Jan 6) that given the forces arrayed against it, it is unlikely the FFP will be taking over any time soon, if ever.

» Well, let's see. This week we learned that the permafrost in the Arctic is thawing much faster than was anticipated which is going to lead to a faster rise of sea levels than we had anticipated.

» Because Section 20 of the Computer Crimes Act is highly inappropriate, must it not, therefore, be banned forthwith? And should those inciting or enabling its use not be prosecuted for such inappropriate behaviour that threatens to undermine good public morals, since their inappropriate acts thereby pose a grave risk to national security?

» Re: "Dress code a non-issue", (Editorial, July 12). Effective organisations and countries prioritise issues to be attacked in terms of importance, putting the most important first; the Palang Pracharath Party, core of the new government, should do the same instead of focusing on minor items like dress codes for MPs. The PPRP wasn't voters' first choice until election rules were changed after votes had been counted, and took over four months to form a cabinet overflowing with scandal-tainted and/or Thaksin-affiliated faces.

» Re: "The evolving Thai political fault lines", (Opinion, July 5). I must agree with everything Thitinan Pongsudhirak has pointed out. This military-led conservative coalition distrusts open politics and a fair, democratic game of elections, constitutions, and political parties and civil society.

» Daniel Reid in his June 3 letter, "Kill noise monsters", is right. There is a department to deal with noise pollution. I found this office at the Bangkok City Hall about 15 or so years ago, tucked away in a corner, staffed by 10 people, all who were playing computer games when I walked in. I was there to file a noise complaint. None of the staff knew where to find the complaint forms to fill in. When a form was eventually produced, there was little enthusiasm for anyone to listen or help out. I finally went outside to find "someone in authority" to light a fire under these people. At least I got the ball rolling after a few hours that should have taken a few minutes.
