Poor meant to suffer

News, Postbag, Published on 21/09/2019

» Re: "Ubon flood saga catches govt napping", (Opinion, Sept 20). The whole problem has many answers. Corruption, low education, but mostly the higher-ups just don't care about poor people and especially those from the North and Northeast even more so.

Class system to blame

News, Postbag, Published on 06/07/2019

» Perhaps it's a case of being "inside the bowl" that stops Thais from seeing the major obstacle holding them back from a true democracy but as a foreigner it looks obvious. From the time they are born Thais are indoctrinated with the belief that there are classes in society and a child must know where they belong.

A load of malarkey

News, Postbag, Published on 30/06/2019

» The debate over suppressing freedom of expression by banning "fake news" is a fake or false argument in and of itself. All news is biased and a reflects the opinion of the presenter. Every commercial news outlet is financially controlled by advertising interests and the editorial focus is directed by executive concerns.

The glue doesn't stick

News, Postbag, Published on 16/06/2019

Corruption endemic

News, Postbag, Published on 08/06/2019

» In my 30-plus years in Thailand, it has become quite obvious that corruption in its various forms has had a disastrous effect on the country through the failure of its institutions. Look up the effect of corruption on Google and immediately you will find that politicians, police and the judiciary are the institutions named as most affected. I have watched with disbelief as politicians, wealthy individuals and military leaders have broken laws, engaged in illegal activities and even caused deaths without any repercussions for their actions.

Expand train capacity

News, Postbag, Published on 02/06/2019

» Your May 31 editorial "Tickets to ride too expensive" neglects an important consideration. While I have no problem with making the electric trains more affordable so more low-income people can use them, doing so without adding to capacity will only make the city's traffic problems worse.

Confusing poll laws

» Am I alone in having trouble understanding the rules and regulations of politicians involved in this latest voting escapade, or are their others equally as baffled as myself?

Democratic justice

News, Postbag, Published on 13/04/2019

» I wish to thank the 12 diplomats and their respective democratic countries for finally supporting the Thai people. Foreign Affairs Minister Don Pramudwinai's comment, "It's an intervention in our justice system" is a joke. Without a truly democratically elected government there is no justice.
