» There is a striking parallel between the 20-month war in the Gaza Strip and the week-old not-yet-war between India and Pakistan. Both confrontations were set off by horrendously cruel mass murders by terrorists whose goal was obviously to start a war that drew the attention of the world back to their own goals and grievances.

» Four years after the Soviet Army fought its way into Berlin in 1945, Moscow built a huge memorial in Treptower Park to the 80,000 Russian and other Soviet soldiers who died taking the city. (5,000 of them are actually buried in the park.) And Berliners instantly took to calling it the "Tomb of the Unknown Rapist".

» The men who carried out Saturday's attack on the parade in Ahvaz, in Iran's southwestern province of Khuzestan, were well trained: Four of them killed 25 people and wounded 70 others before they were shot dead. The question is whether they were trained by the Islamic State (IS), or by the backers of the low-profile Ahvaz National Resistance, which also claimed credit.
