» When make-up artists can't find satisfying tools to do their job, the discontentment may turn into a desire to develop their own products, and so we have Shu Uemura, Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier to thank for arming us with some good stuff to make us look pretty.

» In the hodgepodge of student, amateur, professional and comeback theatre troupes that, for a decade, have together defined the Bangkok Theatre Festival (BTF), it can be difficult to discover the shining newcomers. Even those who have been on the scene for years can easily get lost in the muddle. While regular theatre-goers may prefer to invest their energy in watching the works of long-standing reputable troupes, sometimes it's the new discoveries that make your theatre-going experience all the more worthwhile and exciting. » Over the years it's become something of a cliche: Isabelle Huppert is a small woman who's built up an illustrious career by playing emotionally powerful roles _ roles so big in attitude that we tend to forget the size of the actress playing them. » While visiting the Mon village in Sangkla Buri, I met this woman who was delivering fresh food for sale to the villagers. She was carrying all of the food in a large black plastic tub balanced on her head. The terrain was very steep and uneven, not an easy walk or climb even without carrying anything. This woman was small and thin, approximately 40-45kg. After talking to her, she said she was capable of carrying up to 50kg on her head while manoeuvring on the steep slopes in the mountainous area. I was having a difficult time just trying to walk down the slopes carrying a camera. I was completely impressed by her strength and more than embarrassed at my own difficulty.
