Winding down at White Wood Beach

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 11/08/2017

» Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa manages to blend in with its green surrounding and yet also sprouts an air of chicness. The vast and airy lobby building which has turtle-shell roofs and understated art pieces looks out onto a beautiful pond and, from a distance, villas amid lush greenery to block prying eyes. On our way to a low-rise building where our Deluxe Rooms were waiting, we walked past white sands, lush bushes and palm trees.

However, I personally believe that we should start calling Thailand "The Land of Inconsistencies", since there are so many examples of people receiving different forms of treatment in similar situations. And I thought we were all equal. Here are some examples for your entertainment.

Playing with fire (and eggs)

» Living up to its name, Len Khai (or "play with eggs" in English) food truck tries to put its own twist on the famous omelette, albeit with mixed results. It's the brainchild of self-taught cook Ton who operates it mostly all by himself. His food truck has travelled to many places, from Rama III Road and ABAC to Ratchapak Park in Hua Hin.

Mellow time on Merlin beach

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 26/05/2017

» While many resorts boast about having private beaches, in reality, what they should be saying is "we're really right next to the beach but we share it with our neighbouring hotels and possibly some random vendors too". However, Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach, can really back this claim up. And rightfully so too.

Teach for change

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 05/05/2017

» Some of you may know Thunhavich "Sky" Thitiratsakul as the keyboardist from indie band New Mandarin, but you may not know that he's also a teaching fellow for Teach for Thailand (TFT). The non-profit organisation aims to bridge the gap caused by education inequality so that all Thai kids can have an equal footing in life. TFT is an official member of Teach For All which operates in 39 countries. It recruits young graduates to join its leadership development programme so they'll go on to teach and inspire hundreds of students for two years. We talked to Sky about what it's like being a change-making teacher and TFT's new online campaign "#10000dreams" which launched today.
