» One of Bangkok's oldest libraries has just celebrated its birthday, which also marks the 101st anniversary of the completion of its iconic structure in the heart of the city. The Neilson Hays Library recently hosted "101 Years Strong" with a rich variety of programmes and activities, from a storytime special, a lecture on the building's design innovations, readings with famous authors, a courtyard concert, to an ongoing installation exhibition. Yet the library promises more fun events and activities that will be held all through the year.

Now Sandler's back with another dramatic turn in Hustle, a Netflix sports drama where he plays a basketball scout looking for the next great player. Hustle feels like Jerry Maguire meets Rocky. It is a heartfelt, uplifting underdog movie that also serves as a love letter to the NBA.

Reflecting on her own painful memories soon after meeting the young girl, Gangubai realises her purpose in life and decides to write her own destiny -- to fight and protect 4,000 other women trapped in the world's oldest profession.

» Much like his second feature film Blissfully Yours in 2002, serene stillness is the first impression we get from Apichatpong Weerasethakul's Memoria (in local cinemas tomorrow). Everything remains silent for a long period of time, but suddenly there's a loud booming sound resounding in the head of Jessica, played by Tilda Swinton, a British expat living in Colombia. The noise is loud enough to wake her up from the bed of her hotel room, as she begins experiencing a mysterious sensory syndrome. It forces Jessica out to the city and through the jungle in search of the source of the sound. From that moment on, the sound plays a crucial role to the story in Memoria. While this strange sound is the main inspiration for the film, it is also what Apichatpong has been struggling with over the past few years.

Since the genre's peak in the mid 70s and until today, each slasher movie has stayed true to its original format, without much change in the presentation. Most of these movies usually involves a group of young people on a trip, perhaps to a cabin in the woods, and a serial killer with crazy choices of weapons. There's a lot of screaming and running around and characters making poor decisions that lead to their tragic death.
