Yo momma is so special

Guru, Published on 08/08/2014

» You should be especially thankful for Mother’s Day (Aug 12) this year because you get an extra holiday on Aug 11 (thank you, NCPO sirs). Now that you have a four-day break, we suggest you spend QT with the most important lady of your life and make her feel appreciated with the help of our guide. It’s time to pay her back for all your socks she folded over the years and the countless times she told you to eat your veggies. Happy Mother’s Day, everyone!

Co-working communities

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 20/06/2014

» Bangkok has many options of co-working spaces for freelancers, start-ups and small companies and their number is on the rise. Two such places — Hive and Ma:D — opened last month while one more — Street67 — is on the way.

Pop culture explosion

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 09/05/2014

» Darth Vader and his Stormtroopers will invade Bangkok this weekend! And no, we’re not saying that as a side effect of the Star Wars marathon we went on to celebrate Star Wars Day (May 4) or the announcement of the Star Wars: Episode VII cast. It’s because Thailand Comic Con 2014 is taking place from today until Sunday (May 9-11) at Siam Paragon and the arch-villain and his soldiers will make an appearance there. This week, to help you embrace your inner geek (we all have one — don’t be in denial), we present what you can expect from the pop culture event along with other ways to geek out in Bangkok.

Splish splash

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 11/04/2014

» There was a fuss made recently over a report that a company planned to organise Songkran celebrations in Singapore. Like a motorcycle taxi’s seat pre-heated by the April midday sun, this prompted some Thais to be extra protective of what they considered exclusive to Thailand. However, we need not worry about anyone copying our Songkran since we have many elements that are so inimitable that no other country would be able to (or want to) recreate them. In honour of the upcoming Thai New Year, we present you with all the things that make Songkran uniquely Thai.

#LOWCOSTCOSPLAY

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 17/01/2014

» There have been two things on our mind during the last week besides Bangkok Shutdown and Lin Hui’s pregnancy. They are #selfieolympics and #bikinibridge. The former is the latest trend in photo-taking (seemingly for people who have smartphones, too much time on their hands and a big mirror in front of them) while the latter is a hoax (which we sure hope will really catch on in Thailand). They inspired us to search for lesser-known creative (and cuckoo) photo trends appearing in Thai social media that you may not be aware of. Help popularise them (at your own risk).

Recapping 2013

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 27/12/2013

» New Year’s is time to look back at what has happened during the year that is about to pass. The media usually takes this opportunity to do a round-up of memorable moments. As an esteemed publication ourselves, we decided to do our very own recapping of 2013 (and because we’re too lazy to go out and find new stories). The year hasn’t been a thoroughly smooth ride but we were certainly never bored. Bye-bye, 2013!

A very Thai Christmas

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 20/12/2013

» Christmas is just five days away, and it does matter despite the fact that we live in a Buddhist country. Even though we don’t know how to re-enact the Nativity Scene and most likely can’t name all of Santa’s nine reindeers, that doesn’t stop us from embracing this jolly occasion. We explore how Thais get their Xmas spirit on.

Road rules

Guru, Published on 01/11/2013

» If you think you’ve had it with Bangkok traffic, it seems various authorities have finally gotten off their asses and decided to do something about it. They recently put forth some stringent proposals intended to curb the ever-worsening road congestion in the capital. This week we explore the current (and possibly future) state of the roads and practices you should be aware of in the hope that one day (perhaps in this lifetime) we can be safe on the streets and actually go on that planned road trip (if the cars ever move out of the way, that is).
