» A few days after I wrote about the depressing process for upgrading to Aperture 3, Apple released update 3.0.1 that fixed most problems. Many people had reported difficulties and these centred on library conversion, especially if images used in Aperture 2 had had multiple adjustments. New installations (for example in my Admin account, which I do not use on a daily basis) were generally problem-free.

» Aperture 3, a long-awaited update, was released in early February with over 200 additional features. Aperture 2 had begun to creak and this worsened after the Snow Leopard update last year: a 32-bit application for professional photographers on a 64-bit operating system. As soon as the online store for Thailand was back online, I ordered my update, which arrived at my office on Monday morning. The update was 3,690 baht instead of 7,290 baht for the full version. After lunch, I opened the box.

» Some never listen properly to Apple's announcements. Several criticisms of Apple's new online book store that commented on probable copy protection failed to mention that current book readers do this, or that Apple is embracing the ePub format: an Open Source file type for publishing.

» I usually write the eXtensions column on a Sunday. Before starting this week's offering, I restarted my MacBook Pro. Again. The replacement computer is on order, but as I want a larger hard disk than standard, there is a waiting period. Ordering directly from Apple's online shop takes a week, but I prefer to support local businesses, who have invested into building the market here over the last few years. I am prepared for the delay.

» In November I attended a conference in Kuala Lumpur as part of a team from Mahidol University. Next year, the university is hosting the same conference in Bangkok, so as well as making a presentation I took notes.
