» Once in a while, when you are using a Mac online, you may see a warning that your computer has a virus. This is a lie. There are no viruses for OS X. There are other forms of malware, but the self-replicating application that tries to install and embed itself into other programs is not one.

» I have been quite happy with the 13-inch MacBook Pro I bought about 18 months ago. With its i5 processor, I had expected lower performance compared to my 15-inch MacBook Pro that had the i7 processor, but the 16GB RAM and Solid State Drive (SSD) made up for that — it was faster in use.

» I am minimising comments on the Apple Watch this week. There are plenty of articles already out there: choose wisely. The Watch will be on sale in some countries from April 24. Prices range from $349 (11,460 baht) to $17,000. The one that I am interested in would cost me $699: about 25,000 baht if it arrives in Thailand.

» Despite my confidence in OS X, it would be wrong of me to suggest that Macs are perfect. A power cut, forced shutdown or other event may very well lead to an onslaught of problems. While the system appears to behave, odd behaviour later on may indicate repairs are needed.

The comments were followed by much derision, but anyone who has used Macs for even a short while will know that the temperatures rise, the fans speed up and the system begins to sag like my mother's chocolate cake.

» With the announcement of Apple's Q1 2015 figures released just a few hours ago, I expect there are already several reports online explaining the numbers and telling us why Apple is succeeding. Or failing. It depends on whose words you read. One thing the negatives will suggest is that what goes up, must come down, so in the final analysis Apple will fail. Just not yet.

» A couple of weeks ago my MacBook Pro came back from Mac Center. It has now returned to its usual stable condition. Apart from running a hardware check that found nothing, Mac Center tell me that they reset the system management controller (SMC) and the board logic, then wiped the hard disk. It was returned to me with a basic OS X (10.1) installation.

» It has been a busy two weeks at eXtensions. Last Thursday the iPhone 6; this Friday the iPad Air 2. This week I have a massive dent in my credit card, but I did finish writing my A-Z of System Preferences in OS X 10.10, Yosemite.
