Apple (finally) gives iPhone X release date

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 14/09/2017

» It's September again. While that may not mean a lot to some (namely Android users), for fans of Apple's iOS products, September is the usually when the tech giant graces the world with a glimpse at its latest line-up of new phones, tablets and smartwatches, due to be available in the holiday season. This year's announcement event -- as always -- was live-streamed for Apple fans all over the world. In Thailand, the announcement presentation began late at night on Sept 12, with the highlights being the much-anticipated iPhone 8 and iPhone X (pronounced "ten").

» In recent years, Chinese smartphone brands like Huawei and Oppo have enjoyed a great surge in popularity and positive consumer impressions, blending decent performance with relatively attractive prices. They can't exactly put up a realistic fight against the biggest boys on the block just yet, but they're getting there fast.

Dawn of a gaming dream

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 01/03/2017

» Much as it is with movies, it's increasingly rare these days for a wholly original video game -- one that's not a sequel, prequel, spin-off or remake/remastering of an existing game -- to find recognition in a market overflowing with familiar, tried-and-true rehashes of popular products. Horizon Zero Dawn, the latest Action-RPG from PlayStation-exclusive developer Guerrilla Games, is one such rarity, a wholly original game that deserves the highest praise for its gorgeous, meticulously-realised world and ambitious story, dealing with such themes as creation and artificial intelligence, even if much of its gameplay is admittedly derivative of many open-world games before it.

Not yet final

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 21/12/2016

» Ever since its first title was released in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (known colloquially as the NES), the Final Fantasy franchise has been -- and arguably remains -- one of the best-selling franchises in the global gaming industry, with millions of players worldwide excitedly awaiting each new release. This year, after a decade-long wait, fans of the series were treated to the 15th main entry to the series, titled simply (and ironically, considering the franchise's name) as Final Fantasy XV, the first single-player, supposedly true-blood Final Fantasy game to be released since Final Fantasy XIII in 2009 (or even longer, depending on who you ask).

New, with a sci-fi paint job

» Hardcore gamer or not, the name Call Of Duty -- publisher Activision's phenomenally popular first-person military shooter game franchise -- is one that you have most likely heard about. Released annually around the holiday season since 2005, Call Of Duty has been a household name for video games for the last decade, and is arguably one of the most influential titles of the modern video game era, despite having only minimal variations in its overall gameplay across the dozens of games with its name.

Best of the rest

» The Motorola G4 Plus -- the latest device to join Motorola's Moto G line of smartphones -- is a heck of a good deal. With an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a respectable 5.5-inch full-HD display and up to 64GB native storage (with up to 4GB RAM) that can be increased further with microSD support, it's almost too much to expect from a phone that costs a relatively low price of about 9,000 Baht. Slap on a decent and flexible 16MP back camera, a water resistant frame and a fingerprint scanner for added security, and the Motorola G4 Plus becomes an instant recommendation for anyone looking for an affordable smartphone without sacrificing any (noticeable amount of) power.
