» Three-wheeled vehicles, or tuk-tuks as they are known, are popular among tourists in Thailand due to their distinctive appearance and ability to provide a unique local experience. However, when start-up company Urban Mobility Tech (UMT) surveyed the pain points of passengers in Bangkok using public transportation, they responded that tuk-tuks did not have a standard price and the vehicles created noise and air pollution. In 2017, UMT decided to launch Muvmi, an electric tuk-tuk company, to provide an environmentally friendly and safe public transportation option to Bangkokians.

Life on the Mekong and Mississippi

» To celebrate 190 years of US-Thai diplomatic relations, the art exhibition "Rivers Of Life" has been organised by the US embassy, ICONSIAM and the Chiang Khong community of Chiang Rai. On view at ICONSIAM, the exhibition features two videos -- I See That You Don't See created by Montika Kam-On, a young Thai moving image artist, and A Tale Of Two Rivers created by Alexis Karl, a US filmmaker and perfume artist. Both aim to raise awareness about environmental issues related to the two rivers -- the Mekong and the Mississippi.

KCON returns to Impact Arena after hiatus

» After three years of hiatus, "KCON Thailand" is finally coming back. "KCON 2023 Thailand" will be held at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani, this weekend (March 18-19). On the first day on Saturday, the artist line-up includes BamBam, (G)I-Dle, iKon, J01, KQ Fellaz 2, Mbitious, P1Harmony, and 8Turn. On the second day, Sunday, Young-jae is the headliner, followed by Itzy, ATEEZ, Kep1er, INI, Tempest, TNX, and TO1.

Preserving local traditions

» Since Phetchaburi and Songkhla have an abundance of sugar palm trees, people recognise these two provinces for their palm sugar products. When local ingredient expert Anusorn Tipayanon and community architect Jantrarat Jantaratippalukit visited Pattani, they were surprised to see the palm sugar production process there. After trying wak or krachae (liquor made from palm sugar) in Panare, Anusorn came up with the idea to create the exhibition "Soul/Sweet" which depicts products made from palm sugar.

» When Aroonkamol Thongmorn was a student at the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University, she spent her time during summer break working at an auto parts manufacturer to earn money towards the purchase of a new mobile phone. It was the first time she'd seen auto parts in that context, and she was impressed with their unusual shapes and forms. The experience inspired her to create artworks for her master's degree thesis.

Celebrating a hero

» Corrado Feroci, an accomplished sculptor and painter, was nominated by the Italian government to fill a teaching position in the Siamese civil service upon the Kingdom's request. Feroci, who graduated from the Royal Art Academy of Florence, arrived in Siam on Jan 14, 1923, and later adopted the Thai name Silpa Bhirasri.
