Journey from Jura

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 29/03/2024

» For those in the know, Jura is the emblematic keyword and secret code. It refers to the new Louis Vuitton establishment which just saw its world premiere earlier this month at Gaysorn Amarin.

For the love of design

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 26/03/2021

» When House of Fritz Hansen in Soi Somkid first came to life in 2017, the white house from the 1950s it inhabited was polished into a showroom to display how luxury Danish furniture pieces could fit into a Thai home. Sleek and clean minimalism usually comes to mind at the mention of this Scandinavian name -- but the global rebrand that has been set into motion since last year is injecting quite a popping touch of colours, fun and modernity to its overall aesthetics.

Sheltered paradise

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 28/09/2018

» One of the greatest things in life is to be able to do anything, anywhere, at your own pace while on holiday. I may have the extreme in mind (when you can afford to wake up at 3pm, begin your day at 5pm or get a decent slice of culture all within a short walk away), but if convenience and not having to catch some weird local sickness are part of the package, then why not, right? Of course, not all of us may be free to travel during the high season, when there are no storms to put a damper on our getaway. But even if money cannot buy impeccable weather, it can still buy you an exquisite holiday experience and pictures, if you just know where to look.

A heart-racing time at the track

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 28/09/2018

» Locals say The Fullerton is where the best view is when it comes to the Formula 1 races held in Singapore, but, to be honest, a 360 view has nothing on being near the vroom-ing roar of engines, right at the heart of the happening. Unless you were to throw a party for 40 in your suite's veranda, it's probably a better idea to splash on getting actual tickets to the event than paying five times the usual room rates. For a first-timer to this whole night-race experience and F1 weekend in Singapore, there is nothing quite as infectious as the collective gasps and cheers every time a race car zooms by or how one derives guilty pleasure when witnessing a crash.

» Have you ever had that fanciful childhood friend who would throw the most bedecked parties you wish you were invited to? If you have never had a chance to put in your princess-themed tea party hours, here's a good chance to attend to your childhood dreams that didn't get its share of flowers, fairy-tale creatures and glitter.

Black Panther is stylistic substance

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 19/02/2018

» Having been in a movie black hole of sorts for the past few months, I was completely oblivious to what the movie Black Panther is, when my best friend suggested we go see it. The only thing I knew was that it would be a Marvel movie featuring a cast made up of a majority of African-Americans and Africans. This, of course, is rarer than a blue moon, and was enough to pique my interest. Fine by me. In fact, I would be most intrigued to watch a superhero film where the black guy isn't the sidekick or someone likely to get shot within the first 12 seconds.

Sacred text

» "This isn't just a bunch of squiggles fudging it, is it?" my photographer jokingly whispers. His question is legitimate, even if slightly demeaning. You'll be excused for asking that question if you're long-sighted, because to the naked eye, it really does look like a bunch of squiggly lines that add up to create a larger picture.
