A good quarter for Apple and looking to the future

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 08/02/2017

» Last week, Apple released figures for its most recent quarter, which includes the run up to the new year. There was revenue of US$78.4 billion, beating Wall Street experts again. We must wait for the often-predicted doom a little while longer. Apple thinks revenue for the next quarter should be between $51.5-53.5 billion.

Improving connections to the new MacBook Pro

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 11/01/2017

» When writing a summary of 2016 on my own site recently, I made a prediction: Apple's Q1 2017 financial results would be announced on Jan 24. I was wrong, it will be on the 31st, and as always will feature live audio transmission, although it will be at about 5am here.

Those damn cables

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 28/12/2016

» The 13-inch MacBook Pro I ordered online arrived last week and I switched to that as soon as I could. The transition was relatively smooth, but there were a couple of adjustments. A problem with these new Macs is not the few adapters available, but the lack of suitable cables.

15-inch MacBook Pro a delightful experience

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 30/11/2016

» Every time Apple releases a new product there is a rush to print. There have been thousands of comments about the new MacBook Pro and what is wrong with it (and Apple), but much of that wasted effort is by those who haven't even seen the device, let alone touched it.

More on the iPad Pro

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 09/12/2015

» Let me first correct an error I made last week: the iPad Pro 32GB with Wi-Fi is of course not the same price as the 128GB version: 30,900 and 36,900 respectively. The 128GB Pad Pro with Wi-Fi and cellular access is 41,900 baht. It is this version that I have been using. The ease with which I am able to work is impressive.

Apple keeps getting better

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 16/09/2015

» Today sees the release of iOS 9 and the update to Watch OS, both announced at Apple's event last week in San Francisco when several products were announced. The next OS X update, El Capitan, will be available on Sept 30. There were also indications of a more pragmatic approach, especially with adjusted relationships with competitors.

Arrivals: Apple Music and a MacBook

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 08/07/2015

» Last Tuesday evening, Apple updated iOS8 and OS X to include the latest versions of Music and iTunes to bring Apple Music to users. I updated my iOS devices first and signed up for the three-month free trial. The fee for users here is $4.99. Lower rates than the US rate apply in other countries, too. Some images that came with advertisements for Apple Music indicate new colours for iPod nano, iPod shuffle and iPod touch.

Managing storage with newer Macs

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 10/06/2015

» Last week, a proof of concept attack that could affect some older Macs when they wake from sleep was made public. The information was not shared with Apple beforehand, so there was no time for a patch, while online reports became more hysterical with each retelling. For the paranoid among us, shutting down (instead of sleep) will avoid this particular problem until it is fixed.

Unleashing the Mac mini

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 06/05/2015

» Last week, Apple had another record quarter with sales that included 61 million iPhones. Some pointed out that even with this figure, Apple lost the top spot; however, sales mean nothing without profits and Apple is doing rather well.

Backup or else

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 18/03/2015

» I am minimising comments on the Apple Watch this week. There are plenty of articles already out there: choose wisely. The Watch will be on sale in some countries from April 24. Prices range from $349 (11,460 baht) to $17,000. The one that I am interested in would cost me $699: about 25,000 baht if it arrives in Thailand.
