High energy in a small space

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 31/01/2018

» As technology continues to render computer components smaller and smaller, the need to compromise between portability and power is rendered increasingly moot. The 2017 model of the HP Spectre x360 is a paragon of this idea, seamlessly incorporating 4K-capable processing power with a body barely over a kilo in weight. While the review unit I received had some issues maintaining battery life after a while -- no doubt due to the 4K screen -- the overall experience, including the touchpad, keyboard and even the touchscreen-controlled tablet mode are better than any convertible of this size I've ever experienced. It's certainly the most powerful, too.

Office of the future

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 29/03/2017

» Hewlett-Packard (HP) has recently unveiled a slew of upcoming products, a catalogue of laptops, desktops and smartphones centred around the theme of "The Office Of The Future", defined by the spirit of mobility, collaboration and creativity that defines the millennial generation, the young people who will make up a bulk of the global workforce in a few short years.

No longer the mainstream

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 03/03/2017

» TrueVisions, the veteran cable TV service provider, in January sent viewers reeling after a decision to discontinue six major TV and film channels -- most notably those under the HBO brand. The company then announced plans to drop an additional 11 channels from its line-up just a month later and though the operator has replaced the cancelled channels with seven new ones, plus giving other incentives to its million-plus subscribers, the clamour has been audible.

K6 Note fails to dazzle

Business, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 11/02/2017

» While enjoying moderate success in the laptop computer market, Lenovo has never been the most competitive brand when it comes to smartphones, generally offering devices in the low-to-mid-tier range. The K6 Note, the latest release in the brand's K6 series, which includes the ordinary K6 and the K6 Power, doesn't seem to buck the trend, coming with a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 and a measly maximum of 4GB of RAM, which makes the phone noticeably suffer when used for extended periods of time. The same can be said for the phone's ability to run relatively taxing apps or multitasking. This lack of power and a subpar 16MP camera makes the phone a tough sell, even at its affordable price of 8,990 baht.

Out Of The Shadows is a no-brainer

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 03/06/2016

» As I watched the press-screening for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows, I couldn't help but think again and again how much I would've enjoyed this movie if I was 13. Ninjas? Sleek, CGI-characters? Megan Fox? If I was 13, this could've been one of my favourite films of the year. If.

Envy-ous? Not really

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 11/05/2016

» For a machine with a 6th Generation Intel dual-core i7 processor and 8GB RAM running on Windows 10, the HP Envy Notebook never quite managed to leave much of an impression on me. Despite its impressive specs, comfortable keyboard and sleek design, I still found using the notebook to be merely satisfactory at best, with enough performance glitches to hold it back from being an immediate recommendation. Those of you looking for a light, serviceable laptop computer for working on the go could find a lot to like in the machine, provided you can stomach the relatively hefty price.

Twigging on to educational excellence

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 04/04/2016

» 'If you look around the world, the best teaching practice is one of organised chaos," said Anthony Bouchier, founder and CEO of Twig World, a UK-based company specialising in educational videos. "You allow students moments of activity and noise, but you also need to be able to sit them down and engage their attention and curiosity. People employing good teaching practices recognise that is the best stimulus and incentive to learning. That's what technology brings them, which is the whole world in their classroom."

Health by the numbers

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 22/03/2016

» As the culture of health-obsession becomes more and more prominent throughout the world, Thailand included, people are taking a greater interest in their fitness, as evidenced by the numerous marathons and bicycle races. Fitness-tracking concerns like FitBit, Garmin and Jawbone are reaping the rewards, as their products' ability to detect heart rates, step-counts, sleep quality and calorie gain/loss can help users get a more in-depth picture of their body's needs, as well as provide the necessary motivation to get one moving.
