Looking through the P10 Plus

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 05/07/2017

» With its pair of Leica-developed cameras, speedy 6GB of Ram and beautiful QHD (2560x1440) screen, the Huawei P10 Plus is very possibly the best phone to be released by the Chinese brand so far, providing high-end quality features at a competitive price, with very minor caveats.

Media's shifting landscape

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 23/01/2017

» When the news broke late last year that TrueVisions -- the largest cable TV service provider in Thailand -- would be cutting off six film and television series channels from their line-up beginning this year, a swathe of the network's subscribers were left in doubt as to the necessity of actually owning a cable TV subscription. After all, with online platforms like Netflix, Iflix, YouTube and even Facebook giving us the ability to access our preferred media content at any place or time of our choosing, many consumers are now given more choices in how they can consume media content than ever before.

A voyage of discovery

» Today, Thai audiences will finally be formally introduced to the latest member to join Disney's immortal pantheon of princesses -- Moana, the titular character of Walt Disney Pictures' latest feature film. Unlike her fellow damsels, however, Moana's brand of "happily ever after" doesn't involve a prince charming or a posse of magical, singing animals who make her look pretty for a ball.

Asus ZenBook 3 review: Can it take the heat?

Business, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 15/10/2016

» Looking at the Asus ZenBook 3's specs on paper, there really isn't anything not to love about this ultrabook. Running Windows 10 on an Intel Core i7 processor (or i5, for cheaper versions) with support for up to a whopping 16GB of RAM (4GB for lesser models), 500GB of native storage and a full-HD (1920x1080) resolution LED screen wrapped in a body comparable to a MacBook Air, the ZenBook 3 seems poised to blow it's Mac OS counterparts out of the proverbial water in terms of power, while matching them for portability. Alas, poor heat management and battery life holds back the machine from showing its full power, making it, at best, equal to the MacBook Air in some areas, and borderline broken in others.

X-Men: Apocalypse doesn't mark the spot

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 20/05/2016

» Despite being directed by the man who gave us the original X-Men and X2, a star-studded cast, and two beloved prequels, X-Men: Apocalypse manages to disappoint. In its attempt to both provide a satisfying ending for the X-Men: First Class trilogy as well as set up the new generation of X-Men (for future movies), the film has neglected pacing, plot and action, becoming in the process an incoherent mishmash of soulless special effects and A-list actors. As likeable as the new X-Men are, I doubt many will be looking forward to any of their future films, if this is the kind of stories we can expect.

Inking in progress

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 17/05/2016

» In what could potentially be a life-changing breakthrough for visually-impaired individuals the world over, veteran advertising agency J. Walter Thompson (JWT) Thailand has recently unveiled their Touchable Ink project, a CSR initiative to develop a special kind of ink that -- when exposed to appropriate levels of heat -- will rise up from the page, allowing conventional, household printers to replace expensive dedicated Braille printers.

Sleek solid sounds

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 25/11/2015

» When it comes to high-end headphones, Sennheiser stands right up there with Marshall or Bose in terms of sound quality. The Urbanite XL Wireless, an upgraded version of the same class of headphones released last year, brings with it the sound quality you'd expect from a Sennheiser product; providing a solid bass, while maintaining a wide range of sounds across various genres of music. Additionally, perhaps to compete with more trendy competitors like Beats By Dre, the Urbanite XL is also given a sleek, subtle design that should appeal to more fashion-conscious music lovers as well.
