» As Buddhist Lent approaches, the puritan ethic of alcohol abstinence is being brushed-up and preached again. As if the many insensible laws curbing alcohol consumption in the nanny state of Thailand are not enough, the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) is spending tax money on its annual campaign pursuing unrealistic goals with a laughable strategy.

» When seeing a catastrophic fire of a London high-rise building in a country where safety is supposedly of paramount importance (BP, June 15), one wonders how long it will be before Thailand, where it seems safety is of a lesser importance, experience a high-rise fire of similar magnitude? Where fire appliances cannot not reach the upper floors. No fire alarms or fire doors. No smoke detectors and no sprinklers. I hope such a tragedy never happens.
